My father owns a 250ex and i want him to be able ot ride dumont with me but i think the 250 is underpowered. He is 5 foot 6 inches and weighs about 165. If we did a slip on, KN air filter and re-jet would this make a big difference. Same thing for a 300ex. Thanks.

On the 250ex you're going to have to open up that airbox too.

a full system would really wake the 250 up,along with a open airbox lid as mike said, and rejet it.....you will be good, same thing with the 300 to

Spend the extra money to get the full system. You will probably have to rejet for the pipe, And the K&N with a removed lid would help it to breath on the intake to balence with the exhaust.

i had a Graydon full system on mine, helped a lot from the bottom to top, for the air box, get rid of it. after taking the air box and its components out, bolt a 1 inch strip of steal across the 2 rear mounts for the air box. make a hole in the middle of this to bolt on the brass piece that hold the end of the filter inplace. you'll also have to tear the air boot out of the air box to use it. i used a K&N and generic outerwear with this set up.may not be pretty but it works. hope this is clear enough, i'll post pics later

besides more air flow, i did this mainly for easier access to the carb

I did a PC T4 slip on, Carved out the snorkel tube, took the airbox lid off, K&N, Prefilter and run a 106 main in the summer...110 in the winter and am running 20" Razr's. It made a pretty noticeable difference I'd say about 5hp. It get's out of the hole a lot better but of course not much better on top except that I can hit the rev lim. in 5th which I couldn't do stock. I think when these tires wear out I will go back to 22" tires cause now in the sand it will spin all the way through 2nd before I start to get traction and hopefully get a High comp. piston between now and then too.

i agree with just about everyone doing the full system is the best. My brother has a 250ex and my dad and i put a whole big gun exhaust system and jetted it the right way and you can tell a difference. go for the complet system it is the way to go.
