I left the brackets to help support the plastic. The only things I removed was the headlight assembly and cut the little plastic tabs off towards the front of the nosepiece. I also made the holes closest to the handlebars 1st to hold the hood in place. I didn't read the instructions but I hope this helps.

I TOOK ONE OF THE BRACKETS OFF AND LEFT THE ONE WITH THE CONDENSOR ON. DID ANYONE USE THE SMALL TABS THAT THE LIGHT WAS ATTATCHED TO TO SUPPORT THE HOOD FROM VIBRATING RIGHT TO LEFT? I THOUGHT ABOUT BUILDING TWO LITTLE METAL BRACKETS TO HOLD THE HOOD ASSEMBLY TIGHTER.

Why don't you just put the other bracket back on instead of trying to build some metal brackets. I did mine just like I said above and it doesn't rattle or move side to side any. No sense in reinventing the wheel.

once you take the light out the part that hooked to the hood is gone... isn't it?
