Yep, that's right, $910. Got off the phone with Mickey Dunlap of Fourstroke Tech. He said that he is selling gobs of the 500 kits for the 400EX. I asked him how reliable it is.......he said it is very reliable, atleast more reliable than a 440 kit. He told me that the 500 kit starts with a 490 that is bored 10mm or something like that. I'm not real good with the mechanics but he said the kit is reliable.......what do you guys think, is it worth it?

I am kind of with them do you really need 500cc

the 416-440 seem to get the job done and are reliably and cheaper.

Real men want power, I'm kind of thinking 416-440 are for girls:)

Mickey, what kind of rearwheel HP should I expect from this 500cc kit?

I've ridden with a couple of Mickey's 500's in PA and let me tell you something, NOTHING can get up a monster coal hill climb like those can (including Banshee's and tricked Raptors). They may not be the fastest in a drag race, but they sure have some MONSTER torgue... That coal can be like quick sand and torgue wins on that stuff. Go for the 500!!!!

Mickey,
Please elaborate on what your 500 kit some, and what is needed to allow it to run as designed.
Thanks!

For the price he was only getting the 500 kit (stroker crank w/ HD rod kit, piston, rings, pin, clips, sleeve and head gasket) and oil cooler. The motor like we build the GNCC pro bikes put out a mild 50 hp on pump gas. I have been building some drag motors with 12:1 and a new big cam but I don't think they will live long.:( . The GNCC motors need a cam, valve springs and port work to get the everything out of them.

What compression do you run these 500 kits on? You can run pump gas without worry about predetonation?

One more question, Does the oversized oil cooler really help cool down the motor over stock? Could you run an 11:1 on pump gas with the larger oil cooler?

Thanks.

Dunlap

Its not a larger cooler its a secondary system that cools the oil 50* before putting it in to the hottest and highest wear area which is the head. We run 11:1 on 92 pump gas with no problems, but if you run 50/50 with a leaded race gas it will run stronger, longer and run cooler also.

What cam do you suggest running with the 500 kit?

Dunlap

The one we make for the kit because we keep the de-comp. on the cam so it starts easy and is easy on the starter parts, plus it works the best for this motor.

Mickey, what price would you put on one of your fully build GNCC motors??

Dunlap

I can't talk about prices on here. I sold are GNCC 500ex's for $6000 and $7000.

Mickey, what horse power would you expect from the 500 kit with the cam that you make for it?

anyone rember chads 505? yeah how many times did that thing blow? and he only got aobut 1/3 out of waht he put in it.

I dont think a 10mm over bore can be reliable in any motor unless you replace the whole cases and cyclender with a larger one, but then it wouldnt really be the same motor.

I don't ever remember Chads motor blowing. I think he said it made 45 to 50 hp. We have new cams now for more power now. The only thing Chad was mad at me was I didn't get him his parts fast enough:rolleyes:

I don't know about the reliability cause i just got mine running cause it kept pulling out the studs. but i changed the cylinder and it's all good know.

the only thing I know is that this thing has lots of power and i am running 16/34 gearing. I have to change the gearing just to see what it can really do.

I'm trying to get to VA but I hurt my back 4 weeks ago and I am backed up here more than ever. I can't even torque a head right now. I have to finnish up the 500r with auto clutch and the 800 V-Force for the DW's artical we are doing at the VA. race. If all goes well Chad Wallace will be there on the 500 GAS GAS also,it is sweet.

No mickey, he is talking of another chad with a 505ex not my 502ex.

I've never ever seen one of your dyno's. Over 50, I call BS!

BTW, a friend of mine is selling his brand new from FST 502 stroker kit on ebay right now. The kit he is selling on ebay was his backup kit he got from mickey and has never used it- so it's new. do a search on ebay for the info. maybe you'll get a deal

ok i have one question for you guys. If your going to invest to get a 500ex. Just to reach 50 hp. Why not get a 450r. If you want the power so bad wouldnt a 450r be easier, plus its liquid cooled and if you get a 500 big bore kit for it you will have well over 50 hp. Just wondering

Don't get me wrong, the YFZs and 450Rs are badass, but there's something about building up a 400ex that can take them...I find that pretty cool... :)

I think that may be the route I'm heading towards. :D

i know the guy who bought both duvall's 500fst quads, well lets say they were torky....BUT they got blown away down the straights by the girly 416-440's they both blew a short time later,as far as i know they are still at fst awaiting repair so they can be sold..he now rides a 450...
