I ordered a 14 tooth sprocket for my 400ex online and the company sent me a sprocket for a '96-'01 R400. Will this sprocket fit on my '99 400EX or do I have to go to the trouble of sending it back for RMA?

Coompare the two sprokets and count the teeth. If they are the same, Go for it. Or you could call the company you bought them from and ask them if they are interchangeable.

The XR400 and 400EX sprockets are the same thing. It will work. My sprocket says XR400 on it.

The stock EX sprocket is 15. He ordered a 14. This will not work.

I was told dropping a tooth on the front sprocket would get me better torque up the dunes.. I guess I'll find out this weekend!

Thanks for the feedback all..

a 14tooth front sprocket is a good mod for a 400ex. just hope your chain isnt so shot you wont be able to adjust the carrier to take out the slack

After rigerous testing at Sand Mountain Utah the results were definitely noticable in the lower end spectrum. I lost a bit of top end speed but it was worth the lower-end torque gain.

Much better up the hills and better start off the line.

For less than $20 bucks it was definitely worth it!
