C'mon Shocker, what REALLY happened? Spill it. Inquiring minds wanna know.
Hey socallen85, sorry you were bakin' w/ no shade. We definitely would've invited you over to hang out with us but didn't know you were there. I had my enclosed trailer & EZ-Up with plenty of shade to spare. And that offer stands for the future rounds too.
Ya, the track was changed up a little bit. Shocker, that double that you finally got to clear has been extended another 10 - 15'. I didn't like it at first but once I got it dialed in I LOVE it. It's now a 4th gear double for me, similiar to the one at El Cajon MX WHICH, I'll be at tonight.
I had 13 bikes on the gate for my race. Poor starts both moto's but finished 3rd overall. It was fun. Looking forward to the next round.
The Pro Class was light. Only 4 Pro's. Dustin Nelson (SP?) easily won both moto's by almost 45 seconds. This guy is so fast!
SHOCKER
07-26-2004, 03:21 PM
sick, is the double harder to clear? is it an actuall double? i want to do it, so exactly how big do you think it is now? my dad said he though it was 50' i think its more like 40' i dont know what do you think? i want to do it when the next race?
Tastykake Kid
07-26-2004, 03:42 PM
I asked around 'cuz I'm not so good with those guestimations and several people thought it to be around 50' now. Is it a real double? Well, not really. It's more like the old "Pace Peak" jumps that they had at the stadiums in the 2000 & 2001 seasons. Sort of like a table top but with the take off ramp MUCH higher than the rest. You don't HAVE to clear it but it sure is a lot smoother (& faster) to clear it. I go around that berm turn in 3rd pinned, grab 4th as I go over that small table top hump/jump and stay wide open right up to the face of the jump and then coast off it. It's (as you younger folk like to say) SICK! Aim was there takin' some photo's and I was doing some look-backs at her. That's as far as the tricks go for me. I was just thrilled to be clearing it.
Oh ya, the table right after that big double is now a single to table. It's not too hard though. There's another one of those on the back stretch too. Fun, fun track.
I could go on & on and tell you about the Alba Z470 I rode during practice... but I won't. I'll make you wait a little while.:p
SHOCKER
07-26-2004, 09:43 PM
:eek2: sick, i like that step up/triple after the table after the big double, oh and when i hit the big double i hit it in 4th anyways,
:grr:  i wanted to test ride the z470 so bad, you moofer:mad: so tell me i cant hold it in, :blah: did cory hove bring it up? is he or whoever braught it going to take it to the next race :D
socallen85
07-27-2004, 08:31 PM
i did not like the new double only cuz the landing is so small, out of like 55' i had to hit this 4' space, on a newer bike cake, but with my 87 stock blown out shocks, and so many people crashing i pussed out but i know i can do it,plus i wasnt gonna go for it when i had a 30 sec lead, next race im stayin for practice
and after the finish jump they took out the burm it was a slow flat u turn sucked
SHOCKER
07-27-2004, 10:02 PM
what a rip off, they took out the berm, what about the rythm section? was it easier or harder to do? i mean when i came off that berm and i took that inside double i landed on the top each time, thats very interesting,

What did you guys thing of El Cajon last nite? We told them it needed some help, and they are fixing it right now. They are shortening up the middle jump from 96 to 90 feet, and making it more of a true step-up. They are also making a longer run to it, after a small double. My company rented the track on friday for our customers, so I'll get a chance to try it out then. Are you guys going to elsinore this weekend? I think I'll go, I've never raced there. Talk to you guys soon, come say hi if you go to elsinore, I'll be #12 on a white yamaha
SHOCKER
08-03-2004, 06:33 PM
hey i was at el cajon last nite, i like the track but i didnt like the way they had it set up, i couldnt clear that table i think it was like 60' i only got like 45' on it, and then that ste-up double before the whoops sucked to because ya had to turn right after it, and the table after the whoops is almost impossible to clear on a quad and the section after that table, other wise the track is pretty good, ill still go there i just hope they change it up, i wish they would make that big jump into a 90' table instead of a step-up,
oh by the way i was on a whtie Z400 with race cut fenders, #71 i had no jersey on just a white shirt, i was one of the slow people
and im going to elsinore this weekend, ill be driving up in a black ram 1500 with a shell and a huge white trailer with my Z
oh and what company do you work for?
montyjcm
08-03-2004, 07:59 PM
The el cajon track sounds like it is a sx track more than a mx track. I think that is why it sounds so hard for quads.
I am going to elsinore this sat! Only for practice after the races though. Maybe I will see some of you there.

oh and el cajon is a dirtbike track, its not easy, im really glad i got a skidplate though, it looks like i droped my bike on some huge arse rocks, damn my skid plate is pretty messed up but its holding up great few chunks out of it and huge dents and scratches, most of them from el cajon, but it is doing great

I have raced a little here and there, not a lot, usually just practice at El Cajon, and do a few big races like the national, and g.p.'s and stuff. I havn't done any ITP this year, just the last round last year. The last race I did was vegas to reno. I'll cruise up to Elsinore this weekend though

08-07-2004, 04:26 PM
Sorry man i couldnt stay, during practice before the races i crashed off the 50' table bent my steering stem really bad, so bad when i take the front wheels off the ground it is still really hard to turn, plus i messed up my shoulder and my bike doesnt idle, it runs fine but doesnt idle :huh
otherwise everybody had a good day except for brittany :blah: we dont know what happened but people are or have said that her lower left ball joint broke during the turn, but i think it happened when she got all squirly and landed left wheel first, i dont know but she got to race her dads cannondale, some one needs to tell her that the key has to be on to start the bike :blah: haha
brett took 2nd against a 400ex and 2 yfz450's,
i didnt get to race
and tastykakekid did the finish line triple :eek2: he was so far in the lead that he kased the finish line triple and his seat fell off, he stopped picked up the seat and put it back on and went off, and still had a half a lap ahead of them
 i think he cheats oh and he got 1st

i have some video i'll be posting soon, so if you happen to be in it, then you are one of the lucky ones i video taped...
and britneys quad is f***ed up...
broke the lower left ball joint, and broke the spindle on the right side where the tie rod attaches to it...
socallen85
08-08-2004, 12:27 PM
yur tellin me, Jason and I had to carry it out of the rythm section, the front end wouldnt move what so ever,
what race did you film Shaun?
Josh ill find out about the stem on tues when i go back to work.
SHOCKER
08-08-2004, 12:34 PM
hey i think im going to make my own stem, i think if i can re use the bottom part where the tie rods connect and it bolts to the bottom i will just drop in a new piece of tubing that has a thicker wall, and that way i can have a +1 and then ill just make my own plate for the top for the bar clamps to bolt to, and then gusset the upper plate and lower part, i think it should be pretty easy, i have to take out my oil tank and radiator to even get the tank out, do you think it should be pretty simple, i have a good idea on how im going to do it, its prety hard to explain but its the best, i think that i will just cut off the round tubing from the top to the bottm, then re use the bottom section where it bolts up to the frame and tierods, then i will bolt the bottom to the frame and everything, and then drop in a piece of round tubing and clamp it and then tack it with the super duper flux welder and then spin it, it should be perfectly straight :huh hope ya got that, but i think it should work and be straight
montyjcm
08-09-2004, 01:01 PM
That sucks about your steering stem shocker. That 50ft. table is killer. I never tried to clear the whole thing. The landing is soo small.
I like the track how it is now, though. It is really fun. I got some video footage of practice that I will try to get up later, if my computer lets me. My bro was owning that setup- double at the far end of the track.
SHOCKER
08-09-2004, 01:48 PM
yeah the one out of the corner? that one and the one befoer it are my favortie jumps, they feel good to clear them and dont hurt to bad when ya kase them, actually since my race when i had my 20" rear tires i hit those jumps in 4th and still couldnt clear them and during practice this past saturday i hit them in 3rd with my 18" rear klaws and cleared them easily, the whoops are alot better now, i also like the table after the straight away,
oh and here are some pics of the damage, i found out my radiator is bent around the mounts, jus a little and it doesnt leek and it works fine, and my upper right ball joint is bent, and also alot of stress and rust around some welds, oh and a pic of my smashed lights ;)

socallen85 - You did awesome! Especially considering your on a stock '87 250R.
Monty - I had a 6 hour drive ahead of me so I loaded up & took off right after my race.
Shocker - Yer bummin'.!.!.! Crashin' sucks. Plus, you broke (or bent) parts which makes it worse. Just be thankful you didn't get hurt. Parts can be replaced & fixed. Why are you going to go +1 on the steering stem? I thought I wanted to go that route too until I rode the Alba 470 bike. With the +1 stem, it moves the bars closer to you which makes you sit further back on the bike. It just felt wierd to me. Maybe you can ride someones w/ a +1 before you spend the cash on one.
And what about my race? You (Shocker) didn't mention my pass on the guy for 1st place? How I passed him on the outside, bumped a little in the turn (my right rear tire & his left front) and he broke his hand! Plus, he finished the race with a broken hand! THEN, HE RAN THE 2ND MOTO TOO! Talk about a determined individual. The guy was so cool too. His name was Dean ________. He's racing for points and that's why he stayed out there. Kudos to him!
OH, El Cajon MX was MAD last night! I didn't think I'd like the track at first but I adapted to it really quick! By the 3rd lap I was jumping everything! EVERYTHING! Not sure why I went for everything but I did AND survived! That big jump in the center is a beeyatch on a stock (motored) Z400 though. I'd hit that thing wide open right around the corner and NEVER let off and every dang time I'd land right on top & sort of bounce off the top. It was great! Eichner & Cisco's friend were the only others (that I saw) doing it.
C'mon, you guys can go out there. If I can race in Elsinore, then drive to Phoenix right after, THEN drive to El Cajon on Monday to practice, then you guys can make it out too.
I'll see you all next Monday, the 16th. :D

about the steering stem, i think im going to make one, im going to pick up don's welder today, then go get some metal, but im going to use teh 1" tubing with a little thicker side wall, it will be heavier but stronger, and im going to re-use the bottom part of the stock stem, and the top part with the holes and everything for the stock bar mounts, because aftermarket stems use a diferent ste-up, man i cant explain it, but they use a diferent mounting method and when ya buy some aftermarket stems ya have to buy special bar mounts, but crap i cant explain it but it wont sit as far back as what you are saying
SHOCKER
08-10-2004, 02:14 PM
damm it i pciked up 1" 120 tubing and i need 1 1/4 diameter tubing, o well i figured instead of using 090 which is the thickness of the stock one i would use 120 which is thicker and not to much heavier, the only problem i am having is how im going to mount the handle bar, ill figure somehting out that will work, oh and i will have to go tomorrow and pick up some 1 1/4" 120 tubing
hey brett did ya get quotes on steeringstems? your steering stems use diferent kind of bar mounts though huh? i can use my stocker bar mounts can i?

hey shocker,
PM me. If all you want to do is replace that piece of bent tubing and re-use your handle bar mounts / lower stem, we can probably do it for cheap. And we will use .120 chromoly.
Duncanracer
08-10-2004, 05:02 PM
call up triumph motorsports, see what they can do for you about a stem..
SHOCKER
08-10-2004, 09:44 PM
i think im just going to make my own, it wont be out of chromoly just .120 mild steel but it will add some weight but it will work, besides i think my upper mount on the frame is bent a little back and if i make it at home i know it will fit, im just going to take off the bottom and top part, slip the bottom in with the tierods connected then slip the new piece of tubing through the upper mount and then tack it and see if its straight, if its not i will adjust, that way i know i will have it straight,
hey levi you and cody going to the next race?
brett, wes said hes going to the next race  and he also said he was going to buy a used 01' lexis :huh he says he has 15 grand to put down on one :eek2: i told him he was gay and he should get a truck, oh he also said that shawns sounding to much like you talking about quasd non stop so thats why he made him go work with him, i think wes is gay :blah: im going to tell him that thursday night

maybe i dont wanna call ya ;) i already have the stem done and in my bike, just need to add coolant and then take it for a spin up the street, oh but i still need to get a ball joint, do you guys know if you use the same upper ball joints as burgard? because i need one, im not sure if i bent it at elsinore or if i have bent it before because it would take a hard impact to bend it and my quad hit on the left, so i might of did it when the guy crashed in front of me and i hit him, but im not sure about anything ;)

U got it. 2nd lap. If it's clear, it's pinned! Then I'm pullin' off the track to watch you SAFELY do the rythem section.
C'mon Bret, when are you gonna chime in? I have an R too and those things can FLY through the air like nothin'!
SHOCKER
08-16-2004, 12:01 PM
i hope they didnt change the track to much from last time i went, becuase i kind ofliked it, so how fast ya think i need to clear that section? i think 3rd, i think the only part of that section i dont like is the step-down, after the first double, if i remember its a double, step-down, double/triple, so i think 3rd the whole time and i should be fine
Tastykake Kid
08-16-2004, 12:06 PM
Ya, I do it in 3rd gear. Plus, after that triple there's another double that's small but you gotta have some speed to clear it. It's only like 10' or so. Plus, if you come up short it's no big deal. It might've been there last time you were there - then there's the left hand hairpin and into the whoops you go! Time to try to double through them.
SHOCKER
08-16-2004, 12:13 PM
yeah i did that little double last time, it has no lip and the landing was a little higher than the take off, i didnt like it do to the hair pin turn right after it but i did it a few times, hopefully the track is the same so i can do it, for the whoops im not sure about doubling them, last time iwas going pretty good through them, nothing like you and ellis does but i was poping my front end up over them so my front end would hit the top of each one, that seemed to work the best for me, actually there was this one double that the bottom of it was a sharp angle and if ya hit it at the right speed it would be like hitting the front brakes fast, i hated that one :huh

I don't think I'm worthy of being mentioned in the same sentence with Ellis in regards to our riding. BUT THANKS! He's so friggin' fast through those whoops. He like triples or even quads INTO them.
There's really plenty of room to slow for the corner after that little double. It's probably one of the easier doubles to do... No wait, the one after the table that's after the whoops is the easiest one to do. I think I did that in 1st gear one time.
SHOCKER
08-16-2004, 12:39 PM
oh yeah no one was doing that one after the table thats after the whoops :huh i think i saw a dirtbike do it, but everyone i saw on a quad just rolled it, i saw 1 guy go off and kase it, it was kind of funny :blah:

there were a lot of you guys at El Cajon last nite, now that I see the numbers on here, I know who you are. What did you think of the roller/whoops?? I guess they made em that way for the race on friday nite. See you next monday! Clark #12
SHOCKER
08-17-2004, 09:54 PM
i loved the whoops
oh and brett it was that little double right out of the corner that only a few people did, it sucked because it was right out of a corner,
the only problem i have now is out of the corners, my front shocks compress when i take fast and sharp turns and my bike has so much body roll all because of my +2 arms and stock shocks and thats why i didnt do the jumps out of the corners
montyjcm
08-17-2004, 09:58 PM
How do you guys like el cajon compared to elsinore? Is it any better/worse? I know that it is more of a sx track, but is it fun?
Tastykake Kid
08-18-2004, 09:33 AM
I personally like the El Cajon track more. It's N.E.V.E.R. dusty and the track is always challenging.
I liked the roller type whoops even though I almost ate it about 4 times. I wish they would've kept that table after the whoops though. I guess it's some sort of step-up but I think only a few bikes cleared it.
Shocker, that double that's right out of the corner really isn't so hard. You could clear it if you started from a dead stop right in the corner. Plus, alls you have to do is land on top of the 2nd jump. It doesn't do anything weird, plus your not going that fast anyways. But I do understand how soft your front shocks are with those +2's. You will benefit with aftermarket shocks but you should look at it this way. If you keep practicing and master that quad with that TOO soft front end, just think how much faster you'll be once you get some real shocks on there. So don't NOT do it because of shocks. The double before the big jump isn't that hard either. That too is a 2nd gear jump for my bike.
Elsinore this Saturday! :)

i cant wait for elsinore, i wonder if they changed the track so the big jump was in the back like they said they were gonna do, i also heard Jason saying that he was thinking of running the track backwards  i hope not, they would have to do alot of stuff to the jumps expecially the step-ups, hopefully they will change the track but not run it back wards, and hopefully they changed the landing on the big table i ate it on:mad:
montyjcm
08-19-2004, 02:22 PM
Yeah, I don't know how the track would run backwards. I saw a guy try it last time I was there; he didn't really do to well. They would have to change the faces of a ton of jumps.

[i]oh and kenny i think everyone is scared of you because after ya broke dino's hand and then ramed that guy today everyone just got out of your way :blah::huh :D [/B]
That was an unfortunate incident, with Dino breaking his hand. Funny thing about that is, I thought it happened when I passed him right before that step-up in the back and it was really at the corner before the finish line triple. I'm glad he's still doing well.
As for this most recent incident, I was absolutely the innocent one. He tried to pass me on the inside and came into that corner WAY too hot and clipped MY front end. He went tumbling off his quad. And what did I do? I stopped and waited for him to get back on and let him take off before me! In fact, a certain official actually came up to me after the race and appologized for this particular riders actions. ANYWAYS, it was kinda funny though. :D (since he didnt' get hurt). I was thinking, GREAT, everyone keeps crashing or getting hurt around me! I'm going to be known as "THAT" guy.
SoCallen - NICE RIDE on Saturday! (& yer friend too, can't remember his name) That was awesome! From way in the back, to up front, to 3rd. That's an awesome job! You make that 18 year old quad work pretty darn good. We'll see ya' Friday at El Cajon! So, you think Josh is going to crash again? :p

I know I'll be there for the last round of the series on the 4th of September but haven't ever been there just to practice.
I know LAEGER'S is hosting the next series and those races are on:
September 11th & 25th.
October 9th & 23rd.
Last round on November 6th.
I should be there for all of those.
If it fits in your schedule, you should really try to catch the El Cajon practice on Monday nights. That's a really fun track!

yeah friday night el cajon and then september 4th is the last race of the thunder in the valley series, then leager after that, but there i sno racing this saturday,
and if i do crash its gonna be right out of a turn because thats were im mor vonurable (SP?)because im slower in the sharp turns at el cajon and everyone will want to cut me off when i take the outside everyone will cut me off through the inside and swing out to the outside and cut me off, thats what happened after the races on saturday at that step-up i was doing good, they kept taking me on the inside so i couldnt do the step-up without landing on them, or i mean cody not them,
by the way, brett is cody going to el cap because i have drating 2nd period with Mr. Fitz and he hasnt been there for 2 days

Tastykake Kid
08-25-2004, 05:16 PM
There's always the 9 corners or maybe the 12 jumps. I think the whoops will be where SoCallen85 makes up some ground. Shocker's gonna do the rythem section perfectly every lap and that will help him save time. Then the both of you are going to fly over the center "Step-to-Table" (that's what I'm calling it now) jump like it wasn't even there. I can't clear it but I bet I know a certain'87 250R that probably could. :)

ya know i was day dreaming about the race on friday during some of my classes today and i was dreaming of how bad would it be if i landed where ya did, then i though wait ya got LT front end and ya hit really hard and i have the really extremely soft front end, so i said na theres no way im doing that jump, i think the 1 at elsinore is more intimidating, i dont know, but yeah if i tried it i surely wouldnt be able to ride off the track something would brake, besides i dont have the guts to do it, and when i race im a little more confortable and im alittle more daring, like at elsinroe i dont do that rythm section during practice or after but when it comes time to race i do :blah: i cant wait for friday either, im ready to go now

Shocker, I was there sat, and I didn't run backwards. So, unless they changed it since then, the track is still normal.
BTW, the finish line triplish thingie has a ton more lift. Don't let off of the throttle going off of the jump. I almost endoed doing that.:)

You sound like a crazy man! Just remember, if you go too big at Elsinore, chances are, you won't be riding at El Cajon for a LONG TIME! Heck, you crash at Elsinore without even going big so... just be careful out there. No sense in getting hurt.
SoCal - free Carne Asada? Is this from Jason? Did he mention any other activities other than what he said at the riders meeting? Any Freestyle? Shocker wanted to go big so... :p

besides all the other stuff ya can do in like 30-60 minutes, how long is it going to take to put on the nerfs and pegs, they go on together, and skid you dont run a skid on the track? i do i need to, and the plastics arent hard, the gearing will take most of the time :huh

they actually did let me use the $2500 Baja design lighting system, and it worked because both races i won the intermediate class, and got 2nd in the pro class, right behind the fastest man in the desert Danny Prather
oh yeah I did let Karissa (my girlfreind) take my truck to go get dinner
SHOCKER

it was surprisingly fun and easy. its the kinda bike that if you dont respect it, it won't respect you. its definetly a desert bike, i dont think there are enough riders to be sandbaggin. I mean its only my fourth desert race and i already skipped Beginner and Novice, so i chose Intermediate. if i beat some pros in year end points ill move up to pro. i think next year ill race a couple BITD amatuer class, SCORE sportsman class, and whatever is left of a 2stroke class in MX.
Hey Shaun are you commin down to El Cajon, and maybe havin a talk with Chris thats what Brit said last night, but yur probly in Vegas by now good luck
Josh when is the next riding time, Mon or race on Fri?

had an alright day ended up 5th amateur
partner had a crash and a few setbacks, in the first 43 miles, so we dropped from 5th to about 14 by the first pit and 20 minutes back from 1st...
i ended up passing 9 people on my lap, and then my partner padded our elad, but we never were able to catch the leaders, they were too far ahead...so we ended up 5th....not a bad day...

As of now, racing is ON for Friday, October 22. Weather is said to clear up on Thursday. That would leave enough time to prep for Fridays race. We will know more Thursday...
