I have designed a bumper that i plan to make in machine shop, and metal fab. But as far as materials go, What is most commonly used for it? I have several different types and grades i can use. What kind of pipe ( O.D. I.D) and mounts what is better plates or posts. I have lots of 1/8" - 3/4" aluminum?

1/8" Alum plate is fine. Don't go thicker, you want the plate to bend and absorb the shock of a hit. Thats what saves the frame. The round tubing is thin, like 1/16", for bending. I think mine is 1 1/2" o.d. but I haven't measured.

It's common to see T6061 aluminum in body parts.

Ok, i will prolly be building it with 1 1/4" t6061 pipe. Then for the plating i will use 1/8" 6061. Thanks for the input.
