for some reason the shock on my friends 400ex is grinding away where it hooks to the link. can someone tell me what's wrong and how we can fix it?

this is the part I'm asking about. you can see where it has worn part of the shock away.

have you ever had it apart, were you sure to put the shaft collar back in

no it's never been apart. is there something that may have been left out at the factory?

Possibly the bearing or dust seal or both. Take the shock off the link and see if the bearing needs replaced.

well I got it pulled apart this morning and still cant find the problem. the bearings are like new. but you can see how much it is wearing away the shock and link.

what I really don't understand is What keeps the shock centered on the bearing?

ONly thing I can think of is landing a jump the link hit the ground and the area at the frame were the link attahes too is bent. Causing the link to come out of the frame at a slight angle and were the shock meets the linkage it's causing it to rub since they're not ligned up properly...

that is a pretty good possibility

i never woulda thought of that, buy a new linkage see if it fixes it

what year is it? my 2001 has done that since it was new.

mine looks like its not centered but its not rubbin.:confused:
