Is this normal for a 400 ex with a pipe and K&N, not sure if it has been jetted.. Keep in mind I weigh 250lbs. 66mph on a handheld GPS is all she will do. I have stock tires 20" stock gearing as well.

That is probaly about right. I am about the same weight and when I had the EX I had the trail tech and it said about 60 top with no wind on a gravel road. Also it was completely stock.

Thanks man, I am going to replace the stock tires.. 99 model, with stock tires you can imagine there shot.. I wanna go with 22" for added clearance. But do you think they will kill my bottom end. I know it will help top end by as much as 5mph..

I have clocked my 04 400 on two different occassions getting two differents max speeds. My friends GPS is pretty dead on accurate as well. On a flat oil top road, I got it up to 68mph and had some room to go still on the throttle but a ford ranger was going slow in front of me so I had to get off it to about 30mph. Second time I topped it out doing 71.3mph on another oil top road and had some room to go again but a curve stopped me. This road was slopped to a small degree. Might I add, my ex was totally stock when I did this. I haven't ran it with my new pipe, k&n, and jetting yet. Hopefully it will add a small amount.

if you want more top end gear it up or get bigger tires but if you want low end and top speed you have to give it more hp first then gear it up

keep in mind that the taller tires will affect your cornering as well, youll have a higher center of gravity, so youll tip more. but if you do get taller ones and you cannot pull them just go down a size on your front sproket.

Taller tires won't affect the center of the gravity. If you were putting the tires on the top of the gas tank then that would affect the center of gravity.

You will only be raising 1" with a 22" tire. It will handle a little different though. Won't slide as easy.

gps is somewhat accurate but if you do speed trap you will know the exact speed.:D

well actually the rear end will be up 1\2" because its not a full inch on the top and bottom its half on top and half on bottom. haha if you want to be technicial.

my stock 400ex could do 67. now with the mods below and stock gearing with 21" mudsharks its pulls at 76mph or so said the car beside me

My GPS (Garmin etrex) clocks me at 68 mph also. Since I put in the 440 kit it still tops out at the same speed, but gets there much faster. My friends say I need a new rev limiter, but I am really happy with my performance all around.;)
