It happens when some of the more popular but useless (in my opinion) threads get deleted, like the "Person above you game" thread. I know many people took a big hit in post counts when that thing got deleted.

That's because you spread yourself out, a little useless here, a little useless there. The hit in post counts occur when people concentrate their useless posts in one area.
