My fiance and I are going to get into mountain biking this summer as a way to get back into shape. She already has a Trek 800 but I'm going to need a bike.

After doing some research, this one seems to be the best for me and my pocket book. :D

Trek 4500

Does anyone have any other recommendations or have experience with this bike?

I'm interested in this too. I was looking at bikes yesterday, something to keep in shape for racing when I can't ride. Dang if rider11x didn't just sell his mountain bike!

Whats your price range? Rear suspension is awesome, I have a Cannondale Jekyll that is unreal.

I have an 02 Trek 4900 and I love it. I busted one of the sprockets on the rear, but it was only a few bucks to replace. No other problems with it, its a great bike. Mine came with the Judy C fork.

My range is $400-500.

I've looked at C-dales real quick, but they seem to be a tad pricey. I also dont think I'll need a rear suspension bike.... not going to be going nuts riding... just local trails.

I got a K2 somthing, I forgot the name, i've barly riden it since I got my 300ex:D . But It's a great bike. The one time I tryed downhill mountain biking at Whiteface MT. WOW. The first thing I did was bomb down this hill, and there was a ditch at the bottom of it. The hill was too step for the back brakes to do much, and if I hit the front ones I would have fliped over the handle bars, well I did that anyway when I hit that ditch at about 15 mph. I love mountain biking.

I would say to drop by some local bike shops and look around. There are many good brands available. Specialized, Cannondale, GT, Giant, Garyfisher, etc.

i owned a Giant DS1 and it was the best bike i've ever been on. front and rear shocks, disc brakes, lots of great stuff and a solid bike. nice wide wheels n tires.

I've had several over the years, Specialized, DBR, and currently a GT full suspension that I've had for about 4 years. I think my next one will be a Cannondale. The weight of those things are unreal.

WoooHooo... just picked it up tonight!

I took it around the block a few times (some pretty good hills - Pittsburgh) and realized how out of shape I'm in... really looking forward to riding more and getting my *** in shape!

I ended up with the Trek 4500 but in this color scheme.
