i think anything between 160-180 psi is good, anything higher i think you need to run race gas.

What is Stock? My Brother`s is 200 PSI or so. I forget what TC told him.

Stock compression on a fresh top end should be no higher than 175 and no lower than 155. There will be variations on this for many reasons, including shape of reeds, carbon buildup, reed spacer plate, year, piston used, gaskets, but those are pretty standard high and low limits on STOCK motor.

Open throttle, and kick about 20 times. Whatever you end up with after 20 kicks is your compression. Some gauges don't hold the reading very long, so be ready to look at it quick or have someone look for you.

If it's stock and falls between those numbers, go ride.

i am at 185 i just tested it. it was between 185 and 190, what does that mean? i have a 86 with just a pipe and silencer on it. i bought it a year ago and have never looked into the engine. do i need to run race fuel or something?

good..don't break my tester and don't scratch my huevos video either. i dunno about that high compression but a 250 dirt bike should have around 230 psi and the quad motor is detuned.

or maybe 50/50. is too high or compression a bad sign?

yea, it mean lot a carbon is built up on the piston

should i do a new top end job then? the person before me ran 20 to 1 and always ran the jetting rich. i switched to 32 to 1 synthetic right away and adjusted my jetting.

Why would reeds or reed spacer have anything to do with compression????? I really am interested in what you have to say!! Jim
