I was driving a bobcat today, and I was driving down a trail, got stuck in a mud hole, so my dad went and got our tractor to help pull me out, so as he was pulling me and the bobcat out, the chain snapped, i seen it flying at me (scariest thing i have ever seen), I put up my arms, and it hit me direct in the arms and center of my chest! If it woulda hit me in the head it prolly woulda split me open, but my arms blocked it abit, and it just scraped and bruised my chest really bad! Just thought I would share my story....

... moral... dont use chains....

Took a bumper off a Toyota truck, slingshot into the back of my
F250.

I told the guy, make sure you tie off to the frame, he said yeah yeah yeah... Ripped that sucker right off the truck and wiped out the back side of mine. Lucky no one was standing near the trucks.

When it was all said and done...1 black eye and $3000 worth of damage to the truck.

Peace

So, you got hit by a snapped chain, blocked it with your arms, and nothing got broke? Welcome to our planet young Kryptonian.

my friend also has an 03' 400ex, one night we were racing on a road, he wasnt wearing a helmet and was also a little intoxicated, he got loose and hit a tree at the top of 4th gear, his quad flew sideways and flipped a few times, anyway he got up and starting riding back to where we were all hanging out and he felt something flapping on his nose. so we got back to the fire and when i saw his nose in the light, one whole side of it was ripped off where the nose meets the cheek. he could grab it and pull it across to the other side of his face. he didnt even feel it happen cuz he was drunk. since he was drunk he couldnt go to the hospital to get stitches, so he now has a scar there, for life, lesson......dont drink and drive EVEN YOUR ATV!!!!

yea your one lucky dude....Ran a call about 2 summers ago now with the Fire Dept. person stuck in the head with a chain....upon ivestigation of the deal after the person was taken to the hospital by ambulance it was found that they had gotten a piece of equipment stuck and was using another truck to tow it out with a logging chain, anyway...the chain snapped camethrough the back of the cab and window (yes i do mean through the sheet metal) and struck him...he finally made recovery after few months in the hospital....say your prayers tonight ;)

Had a guy come through the emergency room where I work who had a similar incident pulling a stuck piece of equipment out of the mud. Had his head out the window looking back when the chain snapped, the chain hit him in the head. His 36 year old wife is now a widow with three young kids to raise. Tragic, but it happens. Be careful and be smart!!!

I was actually looking down at the tires of the bobcat when it snapped, i heard the pop and new exacly what was happening! I looked up and it was like slow motion, i could see the chain flying directly at me... reaction made me throw my arms up and i turned my head sideways, it hit me in both arms and driectly in the center of my chest... got away with only (im guessing) some bruised ribs (none broke thank god) and a couple scrapes on my chest and small scrapes on my arms.... i was thanking god, i have seen what snapped chains can do... i coulda died!!! I am very lucky!
