View Full Version : keep going through brake pads?

i have a 98 300ex and i keep having to replace the rear pads-the caliper is working fine-i think it has to do with the parking brake-how can i take that off? any suggestions? thanks

Take the 2 bolts out that holds it on and it is off. Put on a back palte for $10-15 depending who you buy it from.

Also, check the kind of brake pads you are running. Metallic pads will out last standard pads by as much a 3 times. I have had the standard pads wear out in race if it is muddy. The Metallic are always a few dollars more but will pay for them selves quickly. The only drawback is the wear rotors a little quicker.

yes i am running the EBC sintered metal brake pads-these are the good ones! anyone else?

I believe the ones with an X in the part number are the bad ones.

were does the plate go-on the handle bars or the rear caliper itself? how does it work?

It replaces the e-brake bracket on the left side of the caliper.

I had the same problem on my 440. Take the piston out of the rear caliper and clean it up with some emory cloth. Mine had a little edge on it. Once I had it cleaned up I have not replaced the brake pads in several months. ;)
