400ex k&n pro circuit slip on rejet.....i think i'm gonna stay with the stock bore, but up the compression. to what i'm not sure...i don't want to lose ANY reliability and i want to run pump gas, any suggestions???? and add a hot cams stage two cam (hot cams will work fine w/o changing rocker arms right???) any help is appreciated

You can run a hot cam stage two with stocksprings and without getting your rocker arms hard welded. For compression, that would be your choice.

Highest stock bore I think you can go on pump gas is a 10.5:1 JE piston. Actually that's the only stock bore High comp piston that I know of.

Colby from C&D might know of more..

I you are going to get a high comp piston, I would go ahead and do a 416 kit. Then you would need to get a heavier duty rod and have your sleeve bored but you can get that done for 40 bucks. The bike would be ALOT stronger and you wouldent lose your reliability with a 416.

what about just a stage 2 and leave the stock piston in it? i know it won't be "maximizing" the cam, but i really don't want to lose any reliability at all. any idea if i just do the cam and with my other mods will i be able to at least be close to the z-400?

Since you are going to have the head off to do the cam. You should consider doing port n polish. Granted it will all come together if you did a 416.

Stand corrected - don't need to take the head to replace the cam. But a few more bolts and you can take your head off.

I think a 416 with a stage 2 cam would be what you are looking for. If you got to the 426 the sleeve gets real thin and has a greater chance of cracking under hard riding. The 416 will run with a 426 all day long. I have a wiseco 11 to 1 piston with the XR400 gaskets and I can run pump gas but it runs better on Higher octane fuel. Port and polish is up to you. It helps the power quit a bit but its if you have the cash. mikeboone sells full heads with valves and all with a full port and polish for around 275.00. Any way you do it these mods will wake your 400 up!

If your cylinder is still within spec's you can just replace your piston with a Ross 10.5 standard bore piston, stage 2 cam if you,re into high rpm riding.I would check your valve springs to see if the're within honda's height spec's. Then jet accordingly.
