Someone please help! Here's the problem: it will run and then just shut off, if you let it cool down for a little while it will run fine but then once it warms up again it does the same thing. Sometimes it cuts out, backfires and all kinds of crazy stuff then shuts off. I'm sure someone has had this problem before. Its my wifes quad and I want her to be able to ride this weekend. Thanks in advance!

This may sound weird, but check your spark plug boot. My buddies quad did the exact same thing and finally found out it was the spark plug boot. He replaced it and the problem was solved.

No doubt it could also be something else.

Might be your carb jet... do anything toy our carb lately?

This quad is a 91 model that I bought new in 91. It has had nothing done to it but an aftermarket pipe with jet kit. That was done in 92. This quad still has the original clutch! Original rear sprocket and aftermarket front sprocket that was bought in 91. Dont mean to gab but that is testament to the reliability of Hondas machines. It has the original spark-plug boot, so I'll check that too. Anyone else have any ideas? Thanks guys.

sounds like your running lean on your jetting, try a larger main jet.

Could it be the cdi, since it is original too? I heard from some people back when I bought the quad that they can go out after about 5 years. I remember a few 87 models having cdi problems when I first bought the X.

honda250xrider would that cause it to get too hot and shut off.

Make sure the jet is clean as well as the rest of the carb. If it is clean then try the bigger jet because that sounds like it is running very lean.

yes running lean can make your quad run very hot. And can even cause it to shut off like it is doing. I would suggest you go up a size or two on your main jet... btw what is the main jet in it now stock?

well, my guess is that you are close to being at stock jetting, so i would recommend you going to a 132-135 main jet i think stock is 126-128 i forget and i could be way off here.

Most likely electrical. Check to see if the plug fires when it stops running.
