Whats the story with this song? I heard his brother drowned when they were kids because a lifeguard was not doing his job. This song was written by Phi Collins much later because he found out the lifeguard was going to be at one of his shows....and the story is that the lifeguard went, heard this song then killed himself after the concert. Is this true? One of my buddy's told me this and I heard it today on my way home...

--- In the air tonight ---

I can feel it coming in the air tonight, Oh Lord
I've been waiting for this moment, all my life, Oh Lord
Can you feel it coming in the air tonight, Oh Lord, Oh Lord

Well, if you told me you were drowning
I would not lend a hand
I've seen your face before my friend
But I don't know if you know who I am
Well, I was there and I saw what you did
I saw it with my own two eyes
So you can wipe off the grin, I know where you've been
It's all been a pack of lies

And I can feel it coming in the air tonight, Oh Lord
I've been waiting for this moment for all my life, Oh Lord
I can feel it in the air tonight, Oh Lord, Oh Lord
And I've been waiting for this moment all my life, Oh Lord, Oh Lord

Well I remember, I remember don't worry
How could I ever forget, it's the first time, the last time we ever met
But I know the reason why you keep your silence up, no you don't fool me
The hurt doesn't show; but the pain still grows
It's no stranger to you or me

And I can feel it coming in the air tonight, Oh Lord...

no this is the story

he seen this guy kill his friend

the guy who killed his friend was at the concert when he sang this song

he got that guy up on stage while he sang it

as the song ends, cops come on stage and arrest the guy who killed his friend

If you listen to Eminems song with Ditto ( it was very popular at one time but I cant remember the name ) , Eminem mentions Phil's song about how one guy could have saved another guy from drowing and didnt and Phil seen this guy at one of his shows ... I'm not sure the whole story but listen to the Eminem song and theres mention of it .

Damnit Chef ... u just beat me to it ... did a lil searching .... heres part of the lyrics ....

Eminem as 'Stan']
Dear Mister-I'm-Too-Good-To-Call-Or-Write-My-Fans,
this'll be the last package I ever send your ***
It's been six months and still no word - I don't deserve it?
I know you got my last two letters;
I wrote the addresses on 'em perfect
So this is my cassette I'm sending you, I hope you hear it
I'm in the car right now, I'm doing 90 on the freeway
Hey Slim, I drank a fifth of vodka, you dare me to drive?
You know the song by Phil Collins, "In the Air of the Night"
about that guy who coulda saved that other guy from drowning
but didn't, then Phil saw it all, then at a a show he found him?
That's kinda how this is, you coulda rescued me from drowning
Now it's too late - I'm on a 1000 downers now, I'm drowsy
and all I wanted was a lousy letter or a call

thats weird...I heard it was about the dude that raped his wife, and he was drowning and Phil wouldnt save him:( :huh , its kinda weird how theres so many versions of what its about

Phil Collins is a musical geniuos(sp) dude can sing, song write, play most instruments and can wail on the drums, hes a drummer for the most part but jams on anything
