My 250R gets a sputter when going from one gear to the next.It seems to still pull and it clears up once it gets past a certain rpm.Been having trouble with it puking water occasionaly, also.Changed head gaskets but havent got to run in race conditions to get the sputtering thing to happen for any length of time.I have a feeling the two are conected. The engine is an 88 at .50 over,38mmA/s(160 main jet),215 psi comp, using 115 oct gas.Would overheating come from a lean condition?Plug chops look good. Also airscrew out 1-3/4.Where do I start?

Clean the carb, sounds like the problem.

Cleaned carb, put needle clip in every possible position and still no help.Clip position had no effect one way or the other.Pilot jet is 45 with 160 main.Could spark plug gap cause this?CDI?Starts easy and idles great.Good throttle response in neutral.Problem seems to be in mid range when pulling hard.Almost like a rev limiter is kicking in but the bike keeps gaining speed.

Check your stator with a multimeter. Needs to be like 170-230ohms hot.

Think I found t5he prob.Stator checked ok by the specs in Clymer.Pulled spark plug and the gap was at about .032.Must have grabbed a new one that I didnt gap.Got it down to.020 and the R is alive again. Thanks for the input,I know a few other things to check now if I get the same prob in the future.
