Does polishing the exhaust ports benefit a 400 much???

Curious about the port and polishing that can be done to a 400 motor,, I am getting close to start putting a 440 together,, I have black diamond valves with a O/B on the intake side,, and I was wondering about port and polishing??

Depends on who you have do your port work. I just had my whole top end built by CT Racing. I got it backk last week and port and polish work was just glass dude. So all im sayin make sure you don't pick the guy or don't be the guy who try's this with a DREMEL!:eek:

A mirror finished exhaust port on a 4 stroke engine will not produce any gains in horsepower. The ports will be completely covered with carbon after 15 minutes of running , anyway . The size and shape are what determine the H.P. gains.Porting is a term used to describe rough cutting a port to a desired shape and size , while polishing would be the final blending an contouring of the port.
