I bought a brand new 2004 400EX back in March and I have started modding it. I got the White Brothers E-series slip-on installed and will have a K&N and jets done this weekend (parts coming today). What else should I do? Any help on which jets I should use? I have 6 discs installed on the pipe also. I basically ride trails but would love to have an overall quad that could do anything. Like do MX if I wanted or do CC. Funds are somewhat limited by the way. Please tell me what I should do next!

Go to 12 discs, get an outerwears for the filter and remove the air box lid, or put a bunch of vents in it. Then rejet it.

I forgot to mention I have a outerwears also. What size jet should I use if I leave my lid off?

Remove your choke and put in a # 40 or #42 slow jet. That helped with throttle response a lot!! and power too. Make sure you put some cool stickers on too... that always adds about 20 hp or so.. think about puttin on some air scoops... cooler running engine is more efficient.

Choke is a idea I have but as for cool stickers, I'm not a freakin retard bud. Haha... Good ideas though.

way to make it look like a racer.. nerfs and tires. your going to get holes in them stock ones sooner or later and it sucks when it happens.. get a pair of used nerfts for arount 120$ of of here and get some tires.

If i could go threw this whole process again, This is how i would do it. (my 400ex was about the same as yours it sounds like)

1.Tires
2.Shocks
3.skids,chassie and swimgarm
4.bars,grips,block off plate
5.pegs/or nerfs, whatever u like better
6.motor work (416/426 Fairly cheap, and can expect about 32-34HP's)
7. Now a gripper seat cover, and sticker kit

Thats just my opinion, But i did alot of this backwards, adn i have seen what helped me out the most, and that is in order of what helped me the most! hey I love my spyder grips!!!!!

In my opinion the best thing to do, with your mods and for 30 bucks, go with a renthal 14 tooth front sprocket. It helped my 400ex alot. the sprocket will help a lot in the trails too, it will also give you more low end and i have found that you dont have to shift as much. cheap good mod

as far as jets go i live in kansas and i have found that a 165 main jet works awesome.

First off, If you are wanting a peppyer motor, go with a stage two hotcam. It's the best thing i can think of for the price. Then i would do a 416 kit. You would need to get a high compressoin piston. I would also let sparks do a head job. If you are wanting to develop a race bike, You are going to need aftermarket suspension. I woul look into some elka's or TCS. That is what i am going with. also, I would go with +2 A-Arms and axle.

I'd do motor mods last (besides a pipe). 14 tooth counter sproket.Full body skid and rear skid.Tires/Wheels.Suspension front, then rear.Bars and grips. Front Bumper, pegs, nerfs. Then maybe do a nice 416/426 from someone like Pro Fab or Sparks.

But buy a helmet and good boots first.

I think I might be able to get a 14 tooth sprocket for a really good price of free. My brother has a sprocket from his 440ex he had, he just wasn't sure which it was and was thinking it was that. He also has a set of tires he said I can have. As for a 416/426, what all does that consist of? What all needs to be done and how much am I looking at? It's an idea that I am looking at doing but just not in the near future due to a ticket I got this weekend for expired registration.

my 11:1 416 with stage 1 cam and ross piston all done at once cost me about 1100 total including labor and parts. but the bikes still in the shop being put back together so i couldnt tell you how it performs yet. all i know is its gonna be a nasty bike when i get it back.

Nasty sounds ideal. Please do tell how it feels once you get it back.
