Never been to the dunes yet!!

Going to Sand Lake May24th, and was wondering what ratio I should look at.

00 400EX
Currently 15/38 MODS: White Bros, Jet Kit, Open air box....20" 8P Skat Trak

Should I look at 15/36 to give me some more Bottom End!!!

Thanks Corwin

I'm not sure which quad you're riding but, most have good luck just going down one tooth in the front. Hope that helps....

If you want to increase the torque of bike you need to go smaller on the front or larger on the rear. This will make the bike slower but the engine will not have to work as hard.

I would just stick with the stock gearing for now. If you find that you are getting tapped out (the motor won't pull the higher gears) then drop the front by one tooth.

Have fun

I would put a 14 on it for sure. The stock gearing is too high in the sand unless you are making lots of hp.

How dramatically does dropping a tooth in the front affect top speed?

I would keep your gearing stock but you should get a 14th front just in case you don't like your gearing and a 36th rear will give you more topend not bottom. By the way how long are you going to be down a Sand Lake.

Thanks for the info, I bought a 14 front and a 36 rear and I will play with them at the dunes.

I'll try out the stock gears first!!

We are heading up on our longweekend. May 23rd till the Monday. Not really sure were abouts we are going to be!!

Will you be there!!

Have you thought about traveling a bit farther to the REAL Oregon dunes? Sandlake isn't bad but the other dunes are a million times better;)

Dropping to a 14t in the front will keep your 400ex from bogging down a lot. I think you might find yourself revving to quick so you may want to slap the 36t in the rear as well.

Also a 15/36 gearing, you would lose bottom end not gain.
