I would recomend getting a 400ex. You can get them for pretty cheap these days and if you put alittle money into them they are awsome quads. Plus you can't go wrong with a honda.

haha.. your in the same issue i am. I love my 250x, but i just want a quad that will handle me a bit more. the 250x is a bit to small for me, id love to get a 450r, but i dont ahve the money for that. So i know now im gonna get a 400ex. You cant go wrong with a honda. My friend bought a z400 2 years ago, he wishes he woulda bought a 400ex instead, he has had nothing but problems with it. He is telling me to get a 400ex as well, along with my bro, who has a 400ex.

Of the three quads you list, here's what I think.

Dunes: The Banshee is definitely the best choice if you want something to drag race and just roost around the dunes. The Z and EX would be better choices if you plan to do a lot of jumping though. The Z's slightly higher horsepower and higher revving motor makes it a bit better duner than the EX.

Trails and XC: The EX and Z are virtually tied, it just depends on exactly what you want. The Z is faster in the open areas, but the EX's low-end power is better for tight woods trails. The Z has reverse and liquid cooling, while the EX can hold up to a pounding much better and the parts are cheaper if you do break something. The Banshee is a very distant third. Unless the trails you ride are very fast and wide-open, you'll be on the clutch more than you're on the throttle. Also, the suspension and handling of the Banshee isn't nearly as good as the EX and Z for woods riding.

MX: The Z and EX are basically tied here too. The Z is faster, but the EX is more reliable. Take your pick, slightly higher power or better reliability. The Banshee is once again a distant third. The Banshee is better at MX than it is at XC, but the suspension and handling isn't going to allow you to do much with it.

It depends what you want: if you want loads of torque, get the ex. If you want high revving, get the z. If you want that two stroke hit, get the banshee.
