I'm gonna be doing motor work to my 400. I know that alot of people have the 416 kit due to its somewhat inexpensive and a big jump from stock. I have heard that the 440 kits are to jumpy and to tall no matter what gearing or clutch is this true? So with the new 450's and stuff coming out i dont kow how the the bad 416's will be competetive so i was wondering about how well the 426 kits run. Are they a significant difference over the 416 and then again how much more power comes out of the 440 than the 426? I plan on doing complete motor stage 2 hot cam port polish and 3 angle valve job dyna ignition JE piston FCR 39mm carb the works basically prolly new clucth too. Let me here what ya know or your opinions. THNX

Im running a 416, and it does awsome for me in the woods, and half/way ok threw the feilds. And when i was looking into some diffrent motor kits, I heard the a well built 416 will run with or outrun a 440ex, But the only thing that detured me from the 426 kit was that it has a big heat problem. My 416 raps up really fast, and the power comes in good, But i have notice that when your running a stage two hotcams that when u dog the motor down low, It seems to take a little bit to bring the R's back up! But with my stage one, it comes right out and keeps on pulling hard. They are all great kits, with there advantages, and disadvantages. Just check out some motor kits, and look at some specs!!! Ask mickey dunlop about some motor kits he knows alot more than me!!!

Build a 426..it out pulls 416s and 440s all day long. I used to have a 440 and its just too much work to keep head gaskets in it. the 426 is super relaible. I've holeshoted every race ive done with my 426 motor.. over yfz450s other 440s and a 450R. Like Markk said it takes a little reving to get the stage 2 cam going but its nothing my Qwiksilver didnt fix. Build a 416 or a 426 and learn from other 440 users, its not worth it.

R3 how is your heat markk said that the 426 have heat problems? Also with the dyna ignition and the fcr i should be able to take care of the rpm's also with the port getting more air and fuel should keep the r's revvin.

I just bumped up mine from stock to a 435cc. Installed an Advanced tapered sleeve, JE 89mm 11:2:1 piston and a Hot Cams Stage II, ported & polished head. If you want a true 440 you will have to go with a 89.5mm piston. So far so good with all the work. The oversize tank also helps with the cooling. I'm running a 14t front sprocket & I've got plenty of low end.

Matt,
My 426 has never had a heat issue but I run a Desert Toyz oil cooler. Its 3 time bigger then the stock one and bolts up to the stock location. Cooled my bike down 50 degrees. www.deserttoyzatv.com check that site out and look at the oil coolers.

Mark builds good motors especially having done a lot of work with Sparks over the years. I still think Sparks builds the fastest motors but Baldwin know a lot now too.

yeah from everything i;v heard mark does awsome work and i totaly trust him with my motor, its got a sparks cam and sparks valve work, 12/1 compression piston, and the port and polish was done by mark and then was put back together by mark so i think it will be a pretty sick 426.
