Parsons WV, located in some of the most scenic country the state has to offer was the site for this round of the Koontz Offroad Adventure Series (http://www.koontzadventures.com) The weather was spectacluar and the track was demanding. The many elevation changes gave the riders all they could handle.

A Open start was fast with lots of action. Brandon Sturdivant #10 was out first and looking to get the holeshot

Pappy
04-24-2004, 06:28 PM
The racing was looking to be awesome if the start was any indication of what was to follow!

Pappy
04-24-2004, 06:30 PM
Brandon wasnt going to make this easy for anyone and he rode hard to earn the holeshot!

Pappy
04-24-2004, 06:31 PM
The rest of A class filled in and it was on!

Pappy
04-24-2004, 06:33 PM
4 stroke B was off next with this Z400 getting the holeshot followed by Exrider member Jonathan Sheets (#33)

Pappy
04-24-2004, 06:35 PM
Thru the first turn and ready to tackle the course, B class heads off into the tree's

Pappy
04-24-2004, 06:37 PM
C Novice 22-29 and Vet were on deck and the 1st turn was smooth and without incident

Pappy
04-24-2004, 06:41 PM
C novice 16-21

A Banshee fgrabs the holeshot and heads to the woods!

Pappy
04-24-2004, 06:42 PM
patience pays off as the traffic clears out

Pappy
04-24-2004, 06:44 PM
Brandon Sturdivant was the first to emerge from the woods and had about a 20 second lead on 2nd place

Pappy
04-24-2004, 06:46 PM
Brent Sturdivant on his 450R trying to catch his brother!

Pappy
04-24-2004, 06:48 PM
Brandon Sturdivant powers up this hill and does his best to put some distance between him and his brother.

Pappy
04-24-2004, 06:51 PM
Brandon had a great race going, and was looking great on his ...i must say (Highly Pissed Off) 440 stroker. This thing was the best sounding 400ex based engine ive ever heard!!

Brandons day came to a halt when near the end of the race he snapped a ball joint and finished 6th

Pappy
04-24-2004, 06:52 PM
Brent hangs it out trying to make up time and get the lead!

Pappy
04-24-2004, 06:55 PM
3rd place on lap 2 had this 450r rider blowing thru the turn and making up time. A large portion of A class was in hot pursuit!

Pappy
04-24-2004, 06:56 PM
if you werent one of the top 3 in your class on lap 1 or 2 then you turned into the infamous brown quad!

Pappy
04-24-2004, 06:58 PM
The oversize mudgaurds came in hand for this rider

Pappy
04-24-2004, 07:01 PM
Jonathan Sheets on lap 2 headed for his B class WIN!! You rode great today!

Pappy
04-24-2004, 07:02 PM
The hillclimb ended into an offcamber uphill that was throwing riders every which way

Pappy
04-24-2004, 07:06 PM
There was another , more severe hill back in the woods. I unfortunatley didnt find out about it until late in the race

Pappy
04-24-2004, 07:07 PM
This hill wasnt hard, but if it had rained it would have been very slick. The mud in that area is like ice!

Pappy
04-24-2004, 07:08 PM
The veiw from 1/2 way up the hill

Pappy
04-24-2004, 07:10 PM
Some riders would attack the top of the hill while others coasted it

Pappy
04-24-2004, 07:12 PM
The course was laid out inbetween 2 ridges, making covering many areas difficult. If you dont see your picture, post about your quad, #'s etc and i'll see if i have it.

Pappy
04-24-2004, 07:14 PM
Vet class rider Vern Thompson on his big bore shee!

Pappy
04-24-2004, 07:16 PM
Utility class rider and class winner George Rose

Pappy
04-24-2004, 07:18 PM
Tim Jennings rode hard in C class 16-21 and took home a 5th place finish!

Pappy
04-24-2004, 07:20 PM
Chris Evanto rode his 400ex to a 6th place finish in the vet class

Pappy
04-24-2004, 07:21 PM
Brandon Sturdivant hits the creek and sends a wall of water in the air

Pappy
04-24-2004, 07:22 PM
Hot on brandons trail, Brent Sturdivant had narrowed his brothers lead to less then 10 seconds on lap 3

Pappy
04-24-2004, 07:24 PM
running in 3rd and about 20 seconds behind the Sturdivant brothers

Pappy
04-24-2004, 07:26 PM
Right after this picture this rider pulled off the course. Im not certain but I think the water may have been the culprit

Pappy
04-24-2004, 07:29 PM
natural springs kept some holes muddy all day

Pappy
04-24-2004, 07:30 PM
the 450R digs in as the 400ex rider pulls over to let the faster rider pass

Pappy
04-24-2004, 07:32 PM
well, let's say he pulled over but didnt let off the gas:p

Pappy
04-24-2004, 07:34 PM
A small jump in the trail served to be an obstacle to some...and a double for others:cool:

Pappy
04-24-2004, 07:36 PM
The landing got ruff for those that came up a bit short

Pappy
04-24-2004, 07:38 PM
Brent Sturdivant knew just how to hit it

Pappy
04-24-2004, 07:40 PM
I reckon he told his brother because he hit it good also;)

Pappy
04-24-2004, 07:41 PM
this Raptor rider had no trouble getting his quad over the jump

Pappy
04-24-2004, 07:43 PM
A steep bank allowed me to get out of the way...out of the mud and to get a birds eye view of the action

Pappy
04-24-2004, 07:46 PM
Overall winner Brent Sturdivant was riding great as usual. I think the Sturdivant name will be well known in the GNCC circuit in the near future:macho

Pappy
04-24-2004, 07:47 PM
Brandon Sturdivant shortly before the ball joint failed. He sold his YFZ and plans to pick up his TRX this week.

Pappy
04-24-2004, 07:49 PM
The TRX 450R is getting the job done for a ton of riders.

Pappy
04-24-2004, 07:51 PM
I think with few mods a basically stock TRX can win just about anything

Pappy
04-24-2004, 07:52 PM
In any event, the battle between Red and Blue is getting warmed up

Pappy
04-24-2004, 07:54 PM
the 400ex will be around for a long time, and with proper set up and a good rider it can be competitive with the new generation of thumpers

Pappy
04-24-2004, 07:56 PM
Jonathan Sheets after his class win. All teeth and gums:D

Pappy
04-24-2004, 07:59 PM
It will be a blast following this circuit and looking for the new riders that will attend.

Pappy those are some awesome pics you have posted. You and that camera make a pretty good team. I can't wait till you get your bike all dialed in so you can come out and race again.

Cody you had a good race going, you were ridin hard and you didn't give up. I've been there lots of times. I had chain problems the first two races this year. but it happens to everyone. It looks like this time you can fix it easily though. It could always be worse. That's how I look at... Keep rippin!

Pappy
04-25-2004, 06:05 PM
Yeah Jonathan....Cody sucked it up....he will be ready for the next race.

Here is another shot of you at the start

XC racing can provide an exciting day with action almost everywhere you look!

Pappy
04-25-2004, 06:17 PM
getting wide on this turn, and almost offcourse, left this rider and his machine coated in nice, thick mud

Pappy
04-25-2004, 06:20 PM
Jumping a quad that is covered in slick mud isnt fun, but these guys get it done with a smile:p

Pappy
04-25-2004, 06:22 PM
I tried getting a few different angles of this small jump, but there just wasnt any room to manuver

Pappy
04-25-2004, 06:24 PM
making room for a faster rider

Pappy
04-25-2004, 06:25 PM
this blaster rider seemed to be doing good on his lightly modded racer

Pappy
04-25-2004, 06:27 PM
This section was rather choppy, riders that rode hard thru it were able to make it look smooth.

Pappy
04-25-2004, 06:30 PM
MotoXC33 riding his way to his best finish ever!

Pappy
04-25-2004, 06:33 PM
this 450R and rider are enveloped in a cloud of fine, brown spray:p

Pappy
04-25-2004, 06:34 PM
The rear tire here is shown being compressed under hard acceleration and the ruts formed from day long abuse the quads handed to this track!

Pappy
04-25-2004, 06:36 PM
last lap and the riders werent cutting themselves or machines any slack!

Pappy
04-25-2004, 06:38 PM
Other then getting showered with rocks, this straight section made for some great high speed pictures

Pappy
04-25-2004, 06:41 PM
this warrior rider seemed to have a fun time racing this course.

Pappy
04-25-2004, 06:43 PM
the final 200 yards for this rider and his race was over, the checkered flag can be a cool site after a hard race
