oil leak- 300ex

maybe i'll get more responses here... well yesterday i was riding and i happen to look down and i saw oil alll over my boots and motor. it looked like it had come from around the valve cover. so i took it off and cleaned it out. Well i was riding and was looking and the oil was coming from a tube. looks like an overfill tube. but why would oil be squirting out like crazy. it wasnt overfilled. any ideas would be helpful.

heres the tube the oil is squirting out. i rode for like 2 min and my pant leg is soaked in oil.

Are you sure it was oil:confused: Coulda been gas???

from what i know, that shouldnt be oil since theres no tubes for an external oil cooler or oil tank. that looks like itd be gas. but did you try to follow the tube to see where it goes?

which 'tube' is it? the one alone the plastic or the one goin into your plug cap....

its deffinately oil and not gas.. i'm not really sure where the tube comes from. i guess im gonna take the tank and plastic off to see where it comes from..thanks, anyone else have an idea?

the tube is coming from the top of the motor.

try following the hose and see if it is cut open somehwere... or just go buy a replacement and see what happens

the tube must be some kind of vent tub or something, because when i started it up and it just blows air out, but i guess when i really get on it, thats when the oil starts coming out.,....i'm totally stumped, i dont know anymore.

ok...i kno that its a vent for the motor, but could you have possibly have put too much oil in it or something....im not 100% sure what the problem is....im pretty sure the hose is busted some where because of gravity wont let that oil go up the hose like that....

that tube is basically your wheeler's PCV valve for car terms...only it doesnt reburn the gases, it just lets em go. its nothing more than a breather hose for your rocker arms. you proably have a bad valve or some leak inside there for that type of leak.

what to do:

clean the inside of the hose very well - get all that oil out.
run it and see how long it takes for oil to come out again. if you havnt cleaned it since colombus found america then it might have just built up over time. but if it starts comin right away, stop riding, and pull your rocker cover. look for where the leak is coming from.

yep this happend to me..it is called the "oil vent hose" when you put it in your supposed to twist and it will latch, but it wears out sometimes. I just zip-tied mine to the side frame rail and it has held up good.
