I asked the same question where I buy fuel, a Sunoco Race Fuel Distributor. They said it will last for months with no loss in octane as long as it is kept sealed and out of the sunlight.

i was told the same thing

dark containers better....... keep out of sunlight and keep in a cool spot.

Its in our Garage, its in a VP Drum(dark blue) so its out of the sun .Between the PRedator and the mini Quad(the mini has to be run on Race gas now also) we guess around 6-8 months until it runs out........

i store it in a plain red jerry can. lasts forever.. but who using race gas doesn't use 55 gallons pretty quick. I use easily 20 gallons every week or 2.

At least...not that Im aware of,this place is a petrolium Co.:) I would just look in your phone book and look up local places in the Yellow pages, I was shocked to find out how much the mark up is in An ATV shop:eek:

Yes C-12 is very expensive in local ATV shops. I paid just under $9.00 a gallon last week for some. I deff. need to figure something out. What other size drums do they sell VP in?

Wow, that is high. I pay $4.20 for it and they sell it by the gallon.

They only come in these two sizes here:( IT would be nice if I could buy it in a 25 or 30 Gal. instead... Maybe when we have to buy the next Drum, ill split it with someone..It ave. out to around 6.14 a Gal by us buying a drum vs. the 5 gal. at 8.00 a gal.....

my best friend runs 110 racing gas in his 350Z but he doesn't pay near 9 bucks a gallon. He gets great stuff for 6.75 a gallon or something. It's full 110 octane fuel and no different than C12 or whatever.

I just use the stuff he gets in my racer, and once the predator's all done up tight with high comp. it'll be drinkin' high octane too.

I run Sonoco fuel not VP. I pay $4.20 for Sonoco purple leaded 110. I really like the way this fuel performs, I doubt that th c12 is worth twice as much.

I think its like 3.50 a gallon for 110 race gas right out of the pump at the gas station near me, BP gas station

110 from the pump?..

My friend worked a shop with a mechanic who sold race gas, he sold me 5 gallons at $6.50 a gallon, 112 octane... He said it is equal to 118 or 120 octane at the pump..

yeah 110 race gas from the pump its pretty cool, its the only one I've ever seen in IL, but its fairly common in MI

race gas out of the pump in my area is not the same as race gas you buy at a dragstrip or race track.it is unleaded and usally 110 at the pump is like 107 octane.

as far as the comment about vp not being better than sunoco well that comment is just a joke.sunoco is the worst fuel ever.i pay 7.00 a gal for vp-c16 and that is the averege price around here.c-16 = 117 octane.just my little .02

nope, race gas out of the pump is the same :huh

i buy 76 112 it is leaded and true to it's octane rating from perkins fuel depot here where i live from the pump for 4.25 a gallon, same exact stuff that is taken drag strips and race tracks :o

most gas stations in my area that carry race gas has it shipped there but it is then marked up quite a bit

We used to have race gas locally(turbo blue) and it was at the pump. The only thing with it at the pump is it's easier to dispence and you're usually not allowed to pump it into anything other than a gas can( can't pull up and pump into a street vehicle tank). Some places sell it in smaller quanities so they usually sell it out of their own drum it's still the same fuel and as far as someone saying the stuff at the pump is a lower octane is a misinformed individual. The fuel must meet a minimum octane of which is posted on the drum. As far as Vp, cam2, turbo blue, sunoco, and the others which can vary by your location are pretty close for the purposes which we use it for. Also if you're mixing it with premium you should buy whatever you can get for the cheapest because you're diluting it anyway or run a stronger mix or whole and probly be better off. Around here it's about $4.50/gal last I heard but last year when up at silver lake at a gas station they had race gas for $3.50 or so a gallon and was alittle higher at DAR at the dunes. good luck.........

A joke? I can't feel any difference. Can you? Got some dyno #'s or maybe some product specs that prove your point? We were comparing c-12 to Sonoco purple.

If it better, is it twice as good?

you want crazy? I've seen a quad with some sort of motorcycle chassis and oversized motor running on JP-4. Now that's scary.

QUAD with a MOTORCYCLE chasis?? lmao i dont know if thats possible!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BTW do you know what chasis is??????

RMX500
04-25-2004, 04:50 PM
it wasn't so much a full chassis but it had a motorcycle sized motor and a frame to boot. it had an ATV swingarm and a-arms nonetheless.

i was wondering what the hell allowed it to run JP-4/5

quadjunkies, vp sells race gas in 5, 30, and 55 gallon drums. any vp distributor can get the 30 gallon drums if they want to. it is cheaper by the 55 though...

55 at my dealer is 340, 30 is around 200, 5's are 40.

it is not a power issue between the 2 brands.i've got a coupe(mustang) with a trickflow headed 396 in it.it runs 5.70's in the 1/8th mile on spray.tell me why it will burn plugs with sunoco gas but i can switch to vp and never burn a plug.burning plugs is one step before burning up the pistons and possible the heads so i think paying twice as much for fuel is worth it when it is proven to be better.if you want specs then pm me and i will dig some up.:D ;)

thats my point.here you can pump it in your car at the pump.look i am not just stabbing in the dark.i have a drag car and the quad that i race and have done alot of research on race gas.the gas in the local pump here is unleaded race fuel.

yes it is leaded and it is pump, have you ever heard of a gas can, little thingy used for transporting gas :huh

it's perfectly legal to pump it in that, it is illegal to pump directly into your vehicle

I buy race gas out of the pump, It has a nozzle the size of large banana, that is so you can't pump it into your car. Plus it is in plain sight of the cashier and you have to fill out a slip saying you aren't going to use it in your vehicle.

Hi Tina,
As long as the fuel is in the drum it will keep fine. If you remove it from the drum and put it in a container that the sun penetraits it will loss octane. You will be fine. It would appear you are paying a lot for it though. I buy 112 leaded out of the drum , five gal for $22.

Store in a metal container (dark) out of sunlight and on top of gravel so oxygen gets to the bottom of the container.

Don't store gas too long in a plastic container - keep it in metal. it will last about 3 or 4 months in metal and 1-2 in plastic..
