I need some good brakes that will last a few races. I run B class xc and am going through brakes all the time. I also don't want to spend over $100 for a set, the cheaper the better.

DP pads are the longest lasting pads I've found (and yes longer than stock). I can get about 10 races out of a pair of rears.
Another little trick I learned is to take a deburing bit and debur all the cooling holes on the rotors, this seems to help pads last longer.

never thought about doing that to the holes. About how much are DP pads?

You seriously get 10 races out of the back brake pads. I cant get 10 races out of the front brake pads, maybe 2 with the rears. I need to try some dp if thats true. Ive been using a few different brands of sintered metal and they all dont last any longer than the others.

Yes, on my ATK but you probally won't get quite that much out of a 400ex since their pads are smaller.

Make sure that the caliper is "floating" on the rotor. If it is not than all you are doing when you ride is wearing the pads out.The easiest way to tell is raise the tires off the ground and spin the wheels, look to see if the caliper moves side to side.If the tire stops spinning quickly than it's a good bet that the pads are rubbing the rotor causing premature failure.

I've been having the same problem lately, I check and lube my calipers frequently but am not getting more than six rides out of my pads,I've been running a bigger powervalve R motor recently and thought that not being use to that much more speed was a benefactor.I just bought a set of starke machinery SS solid wave rotors($134.00 a set of 3) to see if that helps. Would be interested in less expensive pads also if anyone can help.

That is a good tip about the tapering rotor holes!

The Wave rotors will help with pad life. It seems the less you pay for pads, the quicker they wear out.

Most bike shops should be able to get them for you. DP = Dunlopad. I know that White Brothers is the distributor for them. I keep them in stock.

i got a free set of pads this time ( my friend had a old set layin around brand new)

but i'm goin to get a crf rear calipar with a gt thunder mounting and a 250r calipar and hub kit... u can find the whole thing for under 100$ and its suppposed to increase pad life and breaking power... i'm gonna do when these pads run out on my 406...

Ya, they should last about 3 times as long with a 250R caliper.
