Why the 4+ letter word limit on search?

Tried to search for something like "blown rod", and got a message stating search words must be 4-letters or more. There are many legitimate 3-letter words or acronymns that could narrow a search, so why the limit?

Doing 3 letter searches is to much of a strain on the server. That is why.

However, if you just add a "*" to your search, it will work.

So just put in blown rod*
