Back shock!

Well i adjusted up the front shock and I left 3 threads of preload in the front but i couldn't get to the back shock do i have to take something off to get to it? What do you guys use to adjust the preload.

i know you should use a flat punch, but i used a long flat blade screwdriver. (shock being new it was effortless to get the lock ring loose) then i just turned the spring itself
