Hey guys. Hows it goin. I am having a bit of difficulty on deciding on which quad to get. I have read so many reviews that I can't really make up my mind. I am trying to decide between a 450R and a Raptor. Both i have heard are pretty good trail bikes. I know that the raptor and 450R are both nearly equal in top speed. but i will very rarely getting that fast. I just want a good machine that is very trail friendly and a good all around woods bike. i do not race or anything although I might drag once in a while, but it will almost be used for trail riding 90% of the time. Also which has the best bottom and midrange as this is where i will be mostly riding. Also any reliability issues or anything I should be concerned about please let me know. I will not be buying used. It will be a brand new quad only.thank you and have a nice day.
P.S. I live in WV and plan on riding it year round. if this matters any.

I HAVE HAD MY 450R FOR ABOUT FIVE WEEKS. IT ONLY HAS ABOUT 3HRS. (MY WIFE WOULDN'T LET ME RIDE UNTIL OUR BABY WAS BORN 3\26\04 WE NAMED HIM DUSTY CHEVY GUBSER)
ANYWAYS I HAD A 2003 400EX AND WANTED SOMETHING FASTER
I HAVE RODE A RAPTOR AND IT WAS COOL BUT I DO LIKE THE 450R WAY BETTER:p I RACED THE RAPTOR IN A PASTURE AND SMOKED HIM ANYWAYS NO COMPLAINT ON THE 450R!
ALSO FOR ABOUT 20-25 BUCKS YOU CAN GET A 13T GEAR AND
IT WILL DO GREAT IN THE WOODS

I may take flak for this but if you are looking for a mostly woods bike I think you'll be happier on a raptor. The 450R likes to rev and it revs real quick, and doesn't like to be lugged around like the raptor. I've ridden a raptor and the power is pretty comparable to my 450 but the 450 comes on faster. If you plan on racing at all or even riding motocross type terrain then the 450 hands down.

Man I have a 13T on my 450R & I can lug it all day had a tough *** HS race this past sunday & it was the toughest trails ive ridden in a long time the bike worked flawlessly, its no comparision to a Craptor.

The raptor has reverse and electric start which would be nice in the woods. It also has tons of power so that would be a good choice for what your looking for. But I think it would be very hard to walk past a new 450R at the dealer. You will just have to ask yourself what you are looking for most. If you just want a trail machine the raptor may be best. If you want to do some serious riding the 450 would be a better choice, better shocks, more race styled. Have you thought about saving some bucks and just getting a 400ex? Everybody knows they are reliable and great in about any riding area.

I thought I would never see this question asked. The 450r is by one of the best quads made! 450r no question asked!

i would say the 450r ive never ridden the raptor so i cant be that much of a help but from what i hear id go with the raptor, the raptor will be cheaper, the raptors are tippy also on the trails, the reverse may help but, me i dont usually need reverse, the 450 is lighter and may be easier to whip around in trails:macho

hey guys this past weekend i had the chance to ride both machines. they both are wickedly quick although the raptor has e-start and reverse i just felt a little more comfortable on the 450R. i know that i am going to get the HRC kit and a 13 tooth sprocket to gear it down a little in the woods. the 450R is a bad bike and I feel i would be happier with it. thanks for all your help guys. peace out.

I would go with the 450r anyday of the week, But if your not really looking into any hard core racing, u might think about a 400ex still, they are still great quads!

Raptor's are probably the 2nd best open class quad.. they can't really compare to a 450R. Raptors come with some pretty tame shocks as well. I'd take a 450 any day over a Raptor. I wanted open class so i chose between pred and raptor.

i picked the predator. good choice too.

I'd get a 450 If I had the money. I mostly ride trails so I would probably get a raptor before I got a 450, as mush as I'd want one!

This past weekend we had a trx450r and a 660r raptor side by side on a dirt road, both are piped, and they stayed side by side the whole way, even at top end. I feel the 450r is more responsive and full of torque. Both are nice machines. I would go with 450r though, way better feel to the machine. Nothing against Raptors though, I really like them as well.

if your just useing it to lug around and trail ride, why do you need a 450r or a raptor? you might be better off looking at a z400 or a 400ex. both are good quads and have more woods friendly options over the 450r and handle better then the raptor. im just making this sugestion since you stated you will be trailriding and only drag racing ever so often. you wont need the power those to have and might be happier on the 400's.

I agree with quadrcr161. I have a 2004 400ex. It is my first quad and although it isn't as powerful as the raptor or the 450r, it is plenty fast for me. I wish it had a little more snort for hill climbing, but other than that is a great all around quad. I have a HMF pipe coming this week, I can't wait, the stock exhaust sucks.

That you should've bought a Raptor? :blah:

Soon as I'm able, the Raptor will be replaced by a YFZ... ;)

But I'll never get rid of my LT.

yah i agree with you about the LT...you get all these people that come in here saying how a YFZ is so much faster or the 450R is so much faster then the 250R's....its not true...my LT and the 450R are side by side the whole way....no arguements what so ever...i would keep my LT if i didnt hafto throw out 6,400 for my 450R...its been a great and really fast quad
