View Full Version : no-start ignition problem

Here is the deal, I had my enine disassembeled for a few mods, and when I re-assembeled my engine i found that the bike(400ex) would not start. I have determined the reason why it wont start, but I dont know what the root cause is. When you crank the engine over with the spark plug out it will fire about 10 times per engine revolution. it should only only fire once per revolution. I removed the side case that covers the flywheel, and noticed that the ignition pick-up device is a permanent magnet signal generator, with a steel slug on the outside of the flywheel to trigger the pic-up device. I believe that the pick-up device is actually picking up the magnets in the mangeto and sparking the plug. what i dont know is if the device always recieves interference form these magnets and then the cdi box filters it out and distinguishes the diference from them and the slug, or if the pickup device is bad and the magnets should not interfere.
anyone have any problems like this, or is my bike sick?
thanks
