I am getting new valves and I am wondering what must be done to the seats before I install the new valves. They are just stock valves, but my last ones bent and leaked, because of letting a friend set the timing. The quad never fired but just hitting the starter button caused the piston to hit the intake valves and bend them.

I would replace the seats at the same time.Very simple job.

the best way to do it would be take the head in and have it done but if it was mine i would just go get some valve grinding compound from any auto parts store and lap the valves in by hand

and while you have the valves out change the valve guide seals you dont even need any tools to do it once the valves are out and they cost next to nothing

and no putting new seats in is not a simple job

I think Bill meant seals not seats, and yes do replace them.
Just grind or cut the seats.
DON'T use the starter button to turn the engine over. Disconnect the battery. Take the large plug out of the left case cover and use a 17mm socket to turn the crank, and do it w/o the spark plug installed. Turn it over slowly, if you feel any resistance then something is not right (likely cam timing). Also check your cam timing with the tensioner in place.
