Hurricane Mills, TN was the destination for the sixth round of the GNCC series, and as always, a large number of ATV riders make the trip to this round. This year there were over 700 ATV riders which was one of the largest turnouts ever.

The track was around thirteen miles long and utilized part of the Loretta Lynn MX course. It crisscrossed it way through the valley along the river, and once you crossed the road the track began to work it way up and down the Tennessee hills.

Unlike home in Maryland, most of the trees already had their new bright green leaves.

With the large attendance, the tech inspection line remained a steady stream of atvs most of the day Friday and Saturday.

Also, Racer Production had lengthy flyer available at Registration detailing the sound restrictions they will be enforcing at Sparta.

After having a great race at Steele Cree and skipping Big Buck, Brad Page was back for another go on his limited GNCC schedule.

He quickly found that things hadn't changed much in the Pro Pits with a nice mud hole right where he was trying to pit. It doesn't matter how dry it can be, the pro pits seems to always have a mud hole in the middle this year.

As always, Team HMF was on hand to offer support to its customers at the track. Joe & Hans are always alot of fun to talk to at the track.

Colby & Dusty (C&D Racing) made the long drive from Nebraska to hang out with fellow EXriders.com members at the GNCC.

Colby installs a set of AC Nerf Bars and Roll Pegs while Dusty supervises his progress. Colby also converted the front stock 450R shocks into triple rates, and he changed out the rear spring to allow it to sit lower for Dusty.

If Mike Benson asked for one more thing to be removed from Brian Cook's Fourstroke Tech YFZ. I think he was going to find out what 10lb adjustable wrench felt like:eek: lol:D

Seriously, the team added a White Brothers quite core silencer to Bryan's quad to bring it within the required decibal range.

#1 Bill Ballance has been having an incredible season on his Yamaha with four Wins in a row and looking for his fifth. Bill gives credit to his great pit crew and his the many sponsors that support him (HMF, Moose Racing, Maxxis, Custom Axis, GT Thunder, Spider Grips, and GYTR)

Bill with his Daughter on the line:D

Admin
04-20-2004, 06:50 AM
#2 Chris Borich switch from his 250R to the YFZ hasn't been as smooth as it was for Bill Ballance, but alot of this has too do with his light weight. The YFZ suspension seems to work much beter for riders that weigh over 160lbs and the lighter riders like Chris. He has continually made changes to get it closier to his liking, and he is becoming more and more comfortable, so it will only be a matter of time :macho

#4 Chad Duvall has been on fire with several podium apperances this year. He also gives alot of credit to his sponsors ITP Tires, IMS, Roll, MSR, and many others.

Admin
04-20-2004, 06:54 AM
#5 Matt Smiley seems like he has been having alot of fun this year, and he is always a threat for the podium.

Admin
04-20-2004, 07:00 AM
#6 Greg Trew has been having a great year with several top 10 finishes. Greg has been plaqued with blister & muscle problems which has kept him off the podium several times. He seems to always be out front early in the race, but fades in the last lap or two a few positions. Greg knows he has the speed now, but he just needs the stamina to finish in the top three consisently.

Admin
04-20-2004, 07:05 AM
#7 Brad Page has nothing but good things to say about his 450R, and even joked about taking mine if I wasn't going to race it. Brad may not be at every race, but when he shows up, there is now doubt that he will be won of the top 10 riders on the track.

Admin
04-20-2004, 07:18 AM
#9 Todd Knippenberg (HMF, PRM ATV, Fly Racing) is looking for his first podium apperance, and he deteremined to give his best shot.

Admin
04-20-2004, 07:23 AM
#10 Brandon Ballance has been extremely consistent this year finishing every race in the top 13 overall. In typical Ballance form, he isn't satisfied unless he is on the Podium.

Admin
04-20-2004, 07:26 AM
#12 Bryan Cook is having an awesome rookie Pro Year, and he remains in the top 10 in points easily after finishing every race this year 10th or better!! Bryan is a great rider with a great team!!

Admin
04-20-2004, 07:32 AM
#14 Jeff Stoess continues to pray for rain!!! Jeff definitely dominates when the track conditions become sloppy. He uses his ATK submarine and Kenda Tires to plow through the mud.

Admin
04-20-2004, 07:35 AM
#15 Andy Lagzdins looks like he found the quad for him after switching from the YFZ to the 450R. Since the switch, Andy hasn't had any mechanical problems and has consistently finished in the top 15.

Admin
04-20-2004, 07:37 AM
#20 Michael Houston also has been extremely consistent on his 450R with several top 10 finishes.

After the 2nd turn, The three leaders remained the same except down the stretch Chris Borich was able to power his East Coast ATV / Sparks YFZ ahead of the other two and take over the lead

Chad Duvall and Matt Smiley charged after the leaders

Admin
04-21-2004, 05:55 AM
Bill Ballance and Brad Page were left in a dust cloud

Admin
04-21-2004, 05:56 AM
Jeff Stoess was the last ones to come around the turn, and he stayed on the inside to avoid the dust cloud

Admin
04-21-2004, 05:58 AM
Near the end of lap one, Chris Borich was still out front and ready to take aim on the MX section of the course.

Admin
04-21-2004, 05:59 AM
Another East Coast ATV Rider,Greg Trew, was in second place.

Admin
04-21-2004, 06:00 AM
Several jumps into the mx section, Chad Duvall showed he could air it out and passed Trew in the air to take over the 2nd spot.

Admin
04-21-2004, 06:02 AM
Matt Smiley showed he wasn't afraid of any doubles also, but he did come up a little short on this one as he charged after Trew!

Admin
04-21-2004, 06:10 AM
William Yokley and Bill Ballance were running 7th and 8th as they battled trying to catch Brandon Ballance and Brad Page.

Bill Ballance was struggling with his front tire getting locked up shortly after the start. Debris from the track lodged itself in his rotor and made the wheel drag. after several different attempts, Bill was able to free the debris when he wheelied the YFZ and slapped the front end down at high speed, which freed up the wheel, but he was left without front brakes.

Admin
04-21-2004, 06:12 AM
Team Safari Rider, Santo Derisi, launched his YFZ over the doubles with style as he chased Bryan Cook for the 9th spot.

Admin
04-21-2004, 06:14 AM
#9 Todd Knippenberg was back to 13th behind two 450R riders Andy Lagzdins and Michael Houston.

Admin
04-21-2004, 06:16 AM
After a last place start, Jeff Stoess was trying to make up time as he jumped passed #11 Johnny Gallagher to move into 14th place.

Johnny Gallagher's Z400 seat latch broke, and he was having difficulty keeping his seat on, which slowed him down considerably

Admin
04-21-2004, 06:22 AM
Johnny Gallagher's GT Thunder crew (Brandon Sommers & ELVIS) waited in the pits to assist Johnny. Brandon Sommers(Left) has been having an incredible season racing the C Class in the morning with three wins in a row and 5 top twenty overall finishes starting in the 7th or higher row. Lazarus Sommers(Right) is the man behind many of the top riders engines.

By the 2nd lap, Brad Page had taken the lead and came in to pit for Gas

Admin
04-21-2004, 05:15 PM
Greg Trew moved back into 2nd place and was only a few seconds behind page as he had into the pits to stop for gas also at the end of the 2nd lap.

Admin
04-21-2004, 05:17 PM
Several Seconds after Page & Trew stop for gas, William Yokley came flying through pit row and opted not to pit, which allowed him to take over the lead!

Admin
04-21-2004, 05:20 PM
Brad Page was able to get going before Bill Ballance came through the pits in third place, which was incredible considering he had no front brakes.

Admin
04-21-2004, 06:05 PM
Chris Borich was back to fifth place behind Chad Duvall after leading the first lap, which was due to some track confusion on the 2nd lap. Matt Smiley had taken over the lead with Borich and Duvall behind him and they followed the course, but missed an alternate line which cut almost 1 minute off a lap, which Brad Page, Greg Trew, William Yokley, and Bill Ballance took advantage of an moved out in front of them.

Admin
04-21-2004, 06:09 PM
Gred Trew was slow to get out of the pits and dropped from 2nd to 7th place behind Matt Smiley after pitting.

Brandon Ballance quickly fueled his YFZ and finished the lap in 8th.

Admin
04-21-2004, 06:12 PM
Todd Knippenberg also fueled his YFZ on the 2nd lap.

Admin
04-21-2004, 06:13 PM
Jeff Stoess worked his way up to 15th place by the end of the 2nd lap and put his sights on Rob Zimmerman!

Admin
04-21-2004, 06:14 PM
Kim Kuhnle came in for fuel in the beginning of the third lap

Admin
04-21-2004, 06:17 PM
For the third lap, I worked my way over to the beautiful river that cuts it way through Loretta's ranch propery, and many of the spectators took advantage of the high cliffs over the river for jumping into the river to cool off on the hot day.

Admin
04-21-2004, 06:20 PM
Stefanie Verkade directed the racers to take the outside line along the river to avoid the whooped out section of track many had taken earlier in the day.

04-21-2004, 06:22 PM
When the Leaders came through, Brad Page was once again out front.

Admin
04-21-2004, 06:27 PM
Brad Page had the lead, but Bill Ballance was aggressively trying to find a line to make the pass as he pulled along side of Brad in an effort to make the pass.

Admin
04-21-2004, 06:30 PM
William Yokley was again back to third place, but was on the hammer.

Admin
04-21-2004, 06:31 PM
Chris Borich passed Chad Duvall and had taken over the 4th place spot.

Admin
04-21-2004, 06:32 PM
Chad Duvall wasn't far behind and pounded his Elka suspension through the Whoops trying to work his way back up to Chris Borich.

Admin
04-21-2004, 06:35 PM
Matt Smiley powered his way along the river on his Team Safari YFZ.

Admin
04-21-2004, 06:37 PM

Admin
04-21-2004, 06:38 PM
Todd Knippenberg moved his way up to 10th place from 13th

Admin
04-21-2004, 06:40 PM
Dirt First Racing, Andy Lagzdins, was running strong several seconds behind Todd!

Admin
04-22-2004, 11:29 AM
For the end of fourth lap, I headed back across the road to one of the steepest downhillls on the course and waited for the leader to emerge at the top of the hill! Once they passed me, they only had a little over a mile of course left with the motocross track included.

In typical fashion, Bill Ballance was once again out front at the end of the race, and he had bult up a several second cushion between him and the rest of the leaders.

Admin
04-22-2004, 11:30 AM
William Yokley emerged in 2nd as he came flying down the hill.

Admin
04-22-2004, 11:32 AM
Chris Borich was back in third and was trying to work his way past a lapped rider to make up time on William.

Admin
04-22-2004, 11:37 AM
Brad Page had slipped back to 4th after leading earlier in the lap, and Chad Duvall was all over his rear bumper as they followed a slower rider down the decline.

Once they hit the MX track, Chad Duvall took his YFZ to flight once again, and was able to make the pass on Brad Page to capture the 4th place spot.

Brad Page had an incredible race for the second time this year on his 450R. He has finished 5th overall both races this year, and was disappointed that he could hold on for the win. He told me after the race that his back gave out on him and he just couldn't keep going at speed he needed to win. His home track Sparta is next week, and I have no doubt that we will again see Brad again out front some point in the race because both him and Yokley seem to excel their!

Admin
04-22-2004, 11:41 AM
Jared Gruca finished 12th for the 2nd race in a row!

Admin
04-22-2004, 11:45 AM
Rob Zimmerman put in his last ride on his 400EX and will most likely be switching to a 450R by Sparta. He was finished 22nd overall which was the best finish of anyone on a 400EX.

Admin
04-22-2004, 11:47 AM
Paul Rowlands returned from Europe after skipping both Carolina races, but unfortunately he ran into problems on the 2nd lap and was only able to finish 3 laps. I am sure his Dirt First Racing / Duncan Team will have him ready again for Sparta.

Admin
04-22-2004, 11:49 AM
Johnny Gallagher also only finished three laps after battling with his broken seat during the race.

Better luck next time Johnny C :macho

Bill Ballance won his fifth GNCC race in a Row and extended his points lead to 51 over William Yokley who finished 2nd.

Admin
04-22-2004, 11:58 AM
William Yokley was excited to be back on the podium after struggling the last round with some setup changes. He told everyone that he would be back on the podium next week, and he wasn't kidding. William Yokley was smiling like always and thanked his sponsors (Xtreme Gear, ITP, ELKA, IMS, Tireballs, and Yoshimura) for their support this year.

The one cool thing about William Yokley's clothing sponsor Xtreme is that you can tell who he is on the track. I wear the same gear myself and its bright colors makes it easier for my pit crew to spot me, which is a good thing.

Great Racing William :D

Chris Borich finally made it to the podium this year after switching to the YFZ. After just barely missing the podium with three 4th place finishes, Chris Borich made it happen. He has been agressively working out the bugs on his YFZ, and he is confident that it is riding just as well as his 250R was in the past.

With a little luck on his side, I expect to see chris on the podium more often as the season progresses. Last year, Chris came on strong in the end, and I don't expect any less from him this year which will make for some very exciting racing action to come in the second half of the seaon.

I doubt he will be able to catch Ballance at this point for the championship, but William Yokley better keep an eye out for Chris Borich looking to retain his #2 plate next year.

Congrats Chris:macho

Pro Am Class

Jeremy Rice has been the star of the Pro Am class so far this year! He has lead the last five races, but unfortunately he broke at Florida and South Carolina and wasn't able to finish. He still managed to win two with a mix of a 250R and 450R. Jeremy quickly adapted to the 450R and hasn't looked back.

Admin
04-22-2004, 02:23 PM
James Wahl also is having another great season is a currently 2nd in points behind Jeremy. James Wahl also is ranked 11th overall currently in the afternoon.

He is only rider ranked in the top 20 overall still on a 250R, which was totally the opposite last year, but he continues to use what works for him. If he wants to advance to Pro next year, he will be forced to give up his trusty 2 stroke for a thumper, so we might see James make the switch late in the season???

Admin
04-22-2004, 02:26 PM
Rob Hertz has been racing GNCC as long as I can remember, and he continues to be a contender for a win. Rob made the switch after a few races to the 450R for good, and he has seemed to adapted extremely well with several impressive finishes in a competitive class.

He is currently 7th in points

Admin
04-22-2004, 02:29 PM
Rick Cecco, can I say more , his top priority is to keep his wife Traci out front in the morning, but he continues to race for the fun of it, and I honestly think he is faster now than he has ever been on his YFZ. Last year he raced the Cannondale and extremely well in 4stkA, but this year, he continues to pull his weight in the Pro Am Class!

:macho

Admin
04-22-2004, 02:31 PM
Jason Lewis, Poor Lewis, he just can't get a break this year. He is one of the fastest guys in the class, but after 5 rounds he has only finished 2 and both were impressive 3rd place finishes. If he can finish the race without a problem, I expect him in the top 5 consistently. Hang in there Jason:(

Admin
04-22-2004, 02:32 PM
Frank Kendall is a bit camera shy, but he definitely knows how to ride!

Admin
04-22-2004, 02:35 PM
Todd Rothermel is another very talented rider, but he just hasn't got it together this year. He has switched quads several times, and this week he is on a YFZ. I have raced with Todd in the past, and we have had some great battles on and off the track:cool:, but once he gets settled, I expect to see him move up quickly in the class.

Admin
04-22-2004, 02:38 PM
Brad Macri, was the man to beat two years ago in the 4stk Mod Class, but since his 400EX days he hasn't had the best of luck. He hasn't done bad, but I know that he expects more from himself, and I wish him the best because I know that he is fast!!

Admin

Jathan Seale continued to get it done in his first year of GNCC racing, and probably should be named the rookie of the year for the performance he has put on so far this year. He worked his way up from 4th to 2nd, but was over a minute behind Rice.

Admin
04-22-2004, 02:53 PM

Admin

Admin

Mike Lucas running strong in 7th until he got a flat front tire in the 3rd lap, which really slowed him down.

Admin
04-22-2004, 04:15 PM
Mike Lucas came in and pitted for a tire change, but by the time he got going again he was passed by several riders and only was able to salvage a 13th place finish.

If he would have had Tireballs this would have never happened and he would have easily finished in a top spot in his class and overall.

that was Tommy (Shane) Nash, he luckily did not break his leg, but had to have 25 stitches on the inside and 34 staples on the outside right below his knee. He was released from the Nashville hospital that night and we took him home. Hey Harlen!!! Awsome coverage U have really brought this site together. Its great for us to have such a dedicated person around to give us this coverage. I personally would like to thank you for bringing the action right to my house or work. I have not made any GNCC's this year, and I look forward every round to see the race report and follow the action. It REALLY takes alot of personal sacrifice to bring us this kinda coverage and thousands of people are very greatful!!!!!

THANK YOU HARLEN!!!!!

I wouldn't want the local boys to miss out on what is going on at the Natinoals, but it is a shame that I can't get more local racers to take to pictures from their events and post a race report(Nudge, Nudge).

People may have been wondering why it took me till Thursday to get it finished, but going through several hundred pictures and trying to figure out who the guys are covered in mud takes alot of time. Then, I put them all in order for the race coverage and resize them for the internet. Finally, I spend hours posting my stories from the race. This report alone took me around 15 hours to complete not counting the photography itself.

I must say that I do enjoy doing it for everyone to enjoy, and it is greatly appericiated when people offer their positive comments when I am finished. Also, I thank those members that our kind enough to help out at the event. At the Loretta Lynn race, Stehanie Parton, Lisa from Hiper Wheels, Brad Whitehead, Ron Dernoski, and Brad Whitehead helped with the Video coverage yet to come.

Marty Eckert assisted again with the AM pictures and he will be trying his hand at race coverage by finishing up the AM Coverage.

Again, I thank all of those people that help make this possible, and I can always use someone else to help with taken pictures or video, so please let me know if you are attending a race and would like to help.

Thanks Again, Everyone!!!

This is really great. I haven't checked out all of these race pics yet, but I will probably be on here all day. I miss a ton of races since I only get to tag along to the more local events. J that is a tough one, I would really like to get a chance to race with you in the morning, and I think you will find that it is more difficult to finish in the top 10 overall this year, but I have no doubt that you could still do it.

Bradley musn't have wrecked bad yet. Hopefully he never does if he hasn't.

Any kind of racing is dangerous, you put yourself out on the edges of your ability and sometimes beyond your ability.

You really need to be careful and stay within your limits.

I think is gets safer with time.

Here's what I looked like after my second race(riding above my limits).
