Sparks racing has them too, it is there in house cam. Rumor it is a CRF450 cam. I love the bottom and mid range punch!

Sparks claims the cam is of his own design

Sparks also claims around 4 hp for the low/mid/high range. HRC is all about explosive mid/high range.

I was on the phone with Scott from Sparks and he said the HRC was a better cam.

Do cams make a big difference. Do you have to rejet if you just get a cam!

Using a micrometer, I've measured the stock cam, the HRC cam, and Curtis Sparks "Agressive" cam. The HRC has the biggest cam lobes used for TOP-END power. The Sparks "Agressive cam is used for bottom to mid power, and the stock 450r cam is no comparision to either. Personally, I have all three and the CS is my favorite because it picks up the bottom end and is real close to the HRC in TOP. The Sparks cam is better all round for XC, climbs and trail. The HRC would be best for drag or top end.

standby on the cam specs. I'm at work and they are home. All I measured was lift on each. I do not have a way to measure duration or lobe center. lash is irrelevant just causes valves to open earlier or later in duration. I'll post later.

Sparks cam has a broader power curve than the hrc. I doubt anyone working for sparks would say the hrc is better unless they wanted to work elsewhere, or we arent getting the whole story. I know hotcams is also working on a cam but dont know the specs. Can some one check with Tc and get specs and price?

Manny, yes cams make a huge difference. They effect where and how the power comes on. I dont think you would have to rejet. I see you live in Oregon, call DTR racing in Salem. They have tried both the HRC and Sparks.

Your right the part I left out was talking about the type of riding I do and we agreed the HRC cam is better for me because of the top end gains. I still trail ride and have no problems.

TK, Glad to see you didnt take it as me rippin on you. I am curious as to what type of riding you do where you need topend power? I ride dunes, trails, and soon mx and cant think of anywhere i'll need additional topend?

I run the Stage 2 with porting and love it. Pulled the holeshot twice yeasterday at Kahoka MO aginst some Raptors, Z400s, Built 400ex's, one banshee, and two stock 450r's!!! Works for me...:D

Scott at Sparks told me the HRC gave ya one more HP, but the Sparks cam has more bottom end and mid-range. Like TKWarrior said, the HRC is an excellent drag bike cam.
But in my opinion, bottom end and mid range is more useful. To each his own . anything ya get will be much better than stock.

OK, cam question, not 450r related but I thought maybe the gurus were subscribed to this one already :D

Cannondale camshaft:

Stock intake lift = .382
Stock exhaust lift = .352

Webcam:
Intake lift = .415
Exhaust lift = .368

Can you tell me what more lift is going to do, increase flow or velocity? I don't have the duration numbers... I could call and find out I guess.

I looked at other cams for comparison. The difference of .032 for the intake lift is like the difference between their mildest to their wildest 400ex cam, so I am assuming that this is a big change!

Can you guys shed some light on this for me, the cam-stupid? Pretty pricy mod but I'm considering it. I don't know of a single Cannondale owner who has upgraded.... I might be the test dummy
