I hit about a 60ft. jump today, I came up a few feet short and when I landed my front end popped back up pretty hard, I have the stock compression setting and one turn off the softest setting on rebound and my compression about one thread from the top. My question is which adjustment will fix the pogo effect? I race XC but am toying with MX..

I'm sorry,, my preload is one thread from the top.

The 'pogo' effect would be rebound I believe.

Well I'm no suspension guru but the 'pogo' should be having too fast of rebound, you will want to soften it (looks like you only have 1 more click left but might as well go there). The roll in the corners would be having too soft of compression setting, you will want to stiffen that up a little.

Compression = the force needed to make the shock compress.

Rebound = the speed at which the shock returns to normal length after being compressed.

harder on rebound means slower return, soft on rebound means fast return

That makes absolutely no logical sense to me :o - but thanks for the clarification :D

all the way soft means the shock is doing less to to slow it down
hard means the shock is doing more to slow it down. Same with compression, Harder means the shock is slowing down the fluid to slow down the shaft, on rebound it means harder is slowing down the return of the shaft. hope that helps

That does, thanks. :macho

Thanks for the explanation of how all this works. I bought this TRX450R for my wife and she has been complaining about how fast the seat pops back up when going through the bumps. I have already changed her preload so only 1 or 2 threads is showing on front and rear shocks but I haven't messed with the compression or rebound yet. As she is complaining about the seat popping back up so fast and she only weighs about 110 lbs, should I set the rebound to full hard and will this make the shock rebound as slow as possible? From reading Hammer TRX450r's comments, I think this should help. Also any ideas on where I should put the compression for her where she is only 110 lbs and isn't going to be doing any serious jumping? It is set in the stock setting right now. Thanks in advance... Scott

you need to stiffen it up anyway. she will notice it dive under braking

Hammer TRX450r,

When you say I need to stiffen it up anyway. Are you talking front or rear and rebound or compression?

Thanks Scott

sorry for not explaining but both. stiffen the compression because you softened it with the loosening of the spring. and stiffer rebound so not to get pogoed or bucked off. Push down a YZF rear end and it takes forever to come back up. Push down the 450r rear and it followes you back up.

both front and rear too. My settings at 185 lb are: no threads showing one full turn out on compression and 3\4 turn out on rebound. But if your trail riding it maybe go alittle softer

Hammer trx450r,
Thanks, that will help get me started. Now when you say 1 full turn on compression and 3/4 on rebound is that from taking it all the way in clockwise to the "full hard" position and then turning it counter clockwise 1 full turn for compression and 3/4 turn counter clockwise for rebound? Thanks again for the help... Scott

Thats exactly what i mean. Now those work for me, it might be alittle stiff for some

Souds about what I'm running too, Hammer, just I think I have a touch less compression.
