sell your 400ex for maybe $3500 and with the $2000 extra that you have you can almost buy a new 450r..part out some of the extra stuff you have like the carb.

I just had GT Thunder put their new 450 stroker kit into my engine. Its just a custom 416 bore piston with a 6mm stroke on the crank. I had everything done in about a month for $2500. But I got the entire motor worked over so if you want to go with just the 450 stroker kit and youre on a budget of $2000 I think you should be fine. Its also nice if youre racing because its right at the AMA displacement limit, its actually like 452ccs. Check out http://www.gtthunder.com and give Lazarus a shout, hes a great guy to deal with and has the best prices and turn around time ive seen. Powroll makes some good stroker kits too, but im not sure if they offer a 450 kit or not, if youre not racing then just do a simple 465 stroker or something like that.

i would say that if you dont have anything special like a arms or suspension, then it would be best to probobly get a trx450 if possible. but if not, and you want a big bore, i just got back from Trinity racing, i gave them my bike to do a 465cc kit. everything done with labor of taking the engine out and putting together and all cost bout 2750. if you pull the engine out on your own it should be 2300. if thats still too much then they have a 440 kit that runs at about 1800. they said that the 465 puts out a couple (maybe like 4to5) hp more than the new trx450, and the guy i talked to has the new trx, sponsered by tag and other stuff too, so i trust him.

I got a 440 kit for $300 from White Bros. (actually its the old IMS kit). I would get a new 450R if you have enough to do so.

Duncan Racing has a 450 kit but it is a direct ctliner reacement meaning it doesn't take your stoke clinder and bore it, instead they have a whole new aftermarket cylinder that bolts on, it does however require your case to be bored. They ha a 440 version that doesn't require your case to be bored. They call it the PC 4000 or power cylinder 4000 (meaning4 stroke)

We have a 450cc kit for the 400ex. It costs a little more than the 440 kit because of the custom sleeve. It uses the stock stroke and requires maching the cases. 13.00:1 with 445cc displacement.
