welp i had a serious melt fdown over the weekend my 400ex( big bore 426) locked up figued out when we pulled it apart that my sleve shattered anyhow i am tryin to decide now whether it would be better for me to go with a 350x motor or my old 400 with a 440 kit i know that the 440 will have more power but the 350 will have 6sp and kick start both of which i like and i'll be able to mod the 350x up with no prob please pot your opinion's and if you've ever ridden a 350x lemme know what you think

sory it is so long

Some of them trike 350x engines can run like a rapped ape!!I think some of them were 6 speeds.I race one all the time that is only ported and polished and he always can get me on a start and gives me a run for my money.he is running this motor in a half 250r frame and half 300ex frame.(front is 250r/back is 300ex)It is going to be my next project bike!!

ALSO

run the 350 engine and you can run in the 350 and under class wich is blasters/warriors/300es and 250x's and you can kick ***

a friend of a friend has a 250x with a 350x motor in it.it rips!my friend has a 350x and could run dead even with a stock 400.i'm not sure about them being a 6 speed or not but i think it would be worth a shot if you don't have to make too many if any mods to put it in.

440 all the way. Much easier, its going to be faster and it will save you the headache of mounting that 350x engine. If you want to do that, go find a blown up EX, buy it cheap and then make a project quad out of it. In the mean time, just bore that puppy out. :)

Yes you also know who I am talking about. His number is 39.If he would put about one more grand in to that, it would be one SWEET A** QUAD.

I just need to get a motor like that and throw it in my frame.

from what I understand the 416 is a better mod for a higher (faster) reving engine... I think Rico has said his buddy has this setup....he might have more insight on this 416 kit.

Well I race in a 350 open class sometimes and theres a few guys with the 350x engines and the things do have some power. I would go with another 400 engine cause the parts will be sooooo much easier to find and probably cheaper.

Now about the 416 kit,,,that's what I'll be going to this winter. The 416 bike I rode was built by rocky ridge racing and some other work by TC racing. It has more Arse than you would probably ever need, it'll eat piped banshee's, piped raptors, and runs right next to built 265R's. It also cost my buddy about 1500 dollars for all the motor work too. It does rev like a SOB and has stump pullin torque,,,but it's also strictly a race bike,,not much trail riding is gonna be done on this bike. 416 all the way leave the 440 alone,,I can see a 440 motor on a dune bike but that's it..

rico fiirst off ..nice quad man..thanks alot for your imput i'll seriously think about that the main reason for even wanting to keep my 400 motor is because it already has a wb mid-top cam and hinson clutch basket and all kinds of other goodies but i am worried about this thing having too much top and no bottom with the cam and everything...but maybe i'll try it and see what happens..ps where are you gonna get your 416 kit at?

thanks again and keep your ideas komin

Well since we have a new sponsor,,,marcums ATV,, I'll be getting the piston kit from there,,he'll beat anybodies prices. I just recieved a XR 400 cam from him yesterday, $120.00 to my door,,cheaper than anybody else. Rocky Ridge Racing will do all the work,,I like to fool around with motors somewhat,,but I make enough money so I'll just drop it off and say,,call me when it's ready. I'll also be going with a JE 10.8:1 piston,,If I go with any more compression I'll have to run race gas and I don't wanna do that. Make sure to call around and see if your cam will work with the compression piston you buy. And if ya got the extry cash maybe get some porting/polishing done to go with the other goodies. Call marcums on the parts you need,,really nice guy and the cheapest,,hands down..later and let me know if I can help ya anymore..:D

ok thanks man i'll be givin him a call....i hope this cam and everything works..i can run race gas and get a fairly good deal on it from my local air port it is 2.15 a gal still expensive..as long as you put a bit of 2 stroke oil in it to richen it up a bit ( just a lil ) it burns very nice...just thought i'd let ya know ( lol ) ohh and i also need a sleeve to stock bore..can nybody help em out with this?

sorry to keep buggin you guys but i am kinda lost
i can assembol an engine my self and with my cousin's help so thats no big deal just need the sleeve pressed in and all

Either get another 426 or go with a 416. Both are great MX motors, I have a friend who runs the 416 and hes the fastest rider I know. Its mostly rider though, as he outruns my friend with an LRD 300r who is currently 7th in open A in the GNC, sohes not a bad rider.
Anyway, I rode his 416 and it was as fast as any I have ridden. There was another guy there with a 440 and the 416 left it behind everywhere, top end, and off the start.
The 440 has way more torque though if you are a woods racer thats what I would get. But you said MX. I would get the 416 as I ride a 2-stroke and like fast revving motors, but I have seen some wicked fast 426's too. They are a compromise between the 416 and 440, good torque and pretty good revving too.

I wouldnt change to a 350x motor unless you want to run the 350 and under class for some reason. The 400 has way more parts available, you can get everything for a 350x, cams, pipes and stuff, but EVERYONE makes those for a 400. Plus you got a 400 sittin there!

Hi i have a 92 250x frame wtih 400ex a-arms,400ex works triple rate shocks im running a 86 350x motor with a 396 bigbore, hardend valves/rockers, web cam, port and polished, lightened crank, 12:1 compression [fun to kick] :-] right now i have a stock 350x carb jetted, i just bought a 42mm and im waiting for it to come in. i ride with 400ex's raptors and banshees, i can walk all over 400exs up to about 50 then it is more close though i still win, im about dead even with the banshee which is very modified and i can beat the raptor through 4-5, and yes the 350x is a 6 speed!

so what did you decide to go with ? 416 440 350x? i have a 416 and i am one of the fastest bikes in my pit EXCEPT the 450s and other 400 including z400s i whoop em all i have an old scholl tmm molded cam and the 416 no carb just jetted and a valve job with a duncan pipe noone stands a chance against me on a bad day  it revs like crazy and has enough touqu to rip your arms out of the sockets when i first rode it with the 416 kit i fell off cuz of the tourqe not even lying to you i fell off the back (i wasnt readyu for ALL that POWER:scary: ) never idden a 440 but thats my 2 cents on the subject
