My 1997 300ex has a major problem.. lately the starter has not been recognizing that my bike is in nuetral.. I have to play around with the gear lever and get it just right so the nuetral light will come on and the electric start will recognize and start. I am not sure what it would be that would make the starter not catch on.. The bike will be in nuetral but the starter or light won't acknowledge it. It has been a problem.. Does anyone know what it might be??

Will it start when you pull the clutch in. I'm not sure on the '97's but my '02 will start in any forward gear as long as the clutch is in. It will start in neutral without the clutch though. I'd say it's probabby a position sensor of some kind that is wore. it probably has to be just right since it's wore for it to recognize neutral.
