I'm having a hard time deciding on which way to go. I currently own an 03 400ex and love the bike but am looking for a change. Since I want to stick with Honda my only choice would be a 450R which is an awesome bike as well I'm just not sure how much better it will be for the $$$ they cost.

I have been quading all of my life but have been seriously looking at dirt bikes lately. The new Honda CRF250X looks sweet!!! I am leaning towards the dirt bike since it will be a totally different riding experience then I am used to but am aprehensive because I'd hate to spend the money and end up missing the quad.

Anyone have any advise? What differences can I expect. I mostly do trails and sand pits if that helps. I have rode a few bikes many years ago but never owned one.

Well change is good, but its always nice to have four wheels. Ive rode dirt bikes my hole riding"career" but I have fun on both. I love bikes but Im thinking about a four hundered ex. Like you said your riding at sand pits and trails. It doesnt really matter what terrain you ride, you just need to get your balance on the dirt bike. From then on out your good.:D

You already have a 400ex so buy a crf450 DIRTBIKE engine and put it in your frame:devil:

A 450 is a big bike can you handle it?

If you really like riding the sand pitts i would say stick with a quad. I ride in only sand pitts, and i think quads are the only way to go when ridin pitts.

yea, those are some pretty big bikes you're looking at..the 450r is no baby quad, and the crf250x is no baby bike. lol. you have to really know how to ride to be able to handle them and use them to there fullest

I can more then handle the 450. Like I said I've been riding quads all my life. I want a change from the 400-ex and I'm not sure the the 450 will be enough of a change for the difference in money.

The 250X would be a new experience for me but I'm willing to learn ;-)

im not a dirt bike rider but the 2 wheel'd industry is cheaper than the quad industry....dirt bikes you dont have to buy 3 shocks, you dont have to have nerfs, 4 tires, 4 wheels, so on and so on....you can pretty much take a dirt bike out the box and go to the mx track and race it...while a quad...you could do that but you would flat out get your *** handed to you

I would look at some used CR-125 or CR-250s and pick one up...ride it for a while then switch back to the 400. See which you like better and get rid of the other...as long as you think you are going to like it for a long time and not regret selling the other...I'd like to have a CR-80 just to have fun on when I don't feel like riding my 400 but I don't have the money...

quads are great for snow, powersliding, not getting your legs scratched up, not having to keep your bike upright etc, but, dirtbikes are a lot of fun, cost less etc...I'd rather jump a bike, otherwise i wouldnt feel comfortable.

I know a couple (husband and wife) who rode 250R's (hard) and finally switched to 400EX's after the frames cracked in more than they could be welded. They rode those for a couple of years and decided to get into dirt bikes. Today, the are total dirtbike riders except for one good ole 400. When they went to dirtbikes, the bought some XR400's and then he bought her a YZ250F and he a CR450F. He hated the 450. He said it was too much power and the more he rode it, the more he hated it. Both of them are over 6' tall and in very good athletic shape. Now, both have YZ250F's and love them more and more every time they ride them. Be sure you really want a 450 before you commit to one is all I am saying. Good Luck on your decision.
