arent those, the creatures that are related to spiders and scorpians?

Cole Trane
04-13-2004, 08:25 PM
Yeah, those are called camel spiders. They bury themselves in the sand and wait for camels or whatever to walk over them and they latch on to them. Their saliva is numbing, so the camel doesn't know they are on them and they end up eating the bottom out of the camel and the guts fall out. There are many, many, many stories about those nasty ***** spiders. You don't even wanna hear anymore about those nasty ***** things. I HATE SPIDERS!!! They give me the willies.

When Operation desert storm was going on when solders would wake up without the noses and ears because the camel spiders eat and love cartilage. They will chase you and are extremely fast. I have seen little ones when I was in Kuwait a couple years ago. They also get pretty big from what I hear. They creap me out.

Cole Trane
04-13-2004, 08:30 PM
Bad news yall, they are here too. Not that big though. More like a 2-3 inches. Not a foot or so. They will chase your ***** too, no matter how big they are. My buddies told me about them mofos a while back.

Nasty. I don't care for spiders either. We are doing an invertebrate study project in biology and a few of my buddies are doing tarantulas. I was holding one today and it got spooked and ran up my arm to my shoulder. I almost whacked it.

It's kind of cool though, there is a certain kind of spider you can get called the King Baboon spider. The abdomen is 7 inches, and can grow to about 9 or 10". Only 100$ also, lol..

"They run over 25 miles per hour. They make squealing noises like a child screaming when they scamper about. Worst of all, they are called "camel spiders" because they climb onto the bellies of camels and eat their stomachs from the outside, numbing the flesh by secreting a natural anesthetic. The camels don't even notice until their intestines fall out.

None of which is true.

In reality, camel spiders aren't some mysterious Arabian creature -- we have them in the United States and in Mexico, where they are called matevenados. They are slightly smaller than the human hand, and while they do run quickly, their top speed is 10 miles per hour, not 25. But they also make no noise, they excrete no venom, and although they can be voracious nocturnal predators, they don't eat camels. They eat delicious crickets and pillbugs, and sometimes scorpions."

i got this from a google search
i also found avideo (http://www.ecologicproductions.com/video_projects/TSCK/endangered/TSCK_spider.html)

The Camel Spider in Iraq is the size of a dinner plate. They're attracted to light during the night while searching for prey. Some of the soldiers have had them in their sleeping bags when they climb in to sleep:eek2:

the picture over exaggerates thier actual size. the "bug" is close to the lens (you can tell by the soldiers jacket) and with the other soldiers in the background it makes the "bug" appear much larger.

They do get about the length of your hand and make a cool squishing sound when ya step on them:devil:

Either way they're big as hell and I'd scream like the worlds biggest queer if one was ever on me...:o I wonder how much juice squirts out though when you step on those things...

First off, they're not spiders. Count the legs. Camel Spiders are technically arachnids, but not spiders. They branched off from scorpions eons ago and are known as Solifuges. And they're not venomous. Those aren't fangs, they're actually pincers. Of course, you'll wish the things were lethal if they ever bite you. They say it feels like a very strong man grabbing you with a pair of needle-nosed pliers and bearing down as hard as he can.

Like almost all desert predators, Solifuges are nocturnal. If caught out during the day, they run to the nearest shade. If that shade just happens to be under your ***, you're going to have a visitor muy pronto. Oh, and did I mention that they run at 10 mph? That's either a slow run or a terrified jog. Nobody knows exactly how big they get, but most entymologists agree that it's somehwere between five and eight inches. Although my brother once saw one resting inside a discarded car tire with the end of each leg resting on the tire's rim.

Camel Spiders don't eat camels or humans, but they do eat almosy everything else. Particularly scorpions, which they actively hunt. So I guess they're not all bad.

Unless you are bothered by an eight inch wide arachnid charging you at warpspeed with a face full of wickedly powerful hardware.
