Can someone explain to me how fuses work and why they blow...

heh, ... Fuses work cause they use a thin piece of metal that will burn apart, if to many electrical amps are ran through it.

Ussually they blow because a bare wire is grounding out and all avalible amps are trying to reach that ground.

ok kinda but heres another ? im hooking a toggle up for my key ( hot wiring basically)... i got the wires hooked up and i can get the 400 to start but whenever i pull the tether or turn off the key the fuse blows... what gives???

Sounds like you hooked the tether up wrong.

Your suppose to hook it up the the coil? wire I think. I can't recall correctly right now, basically the wire that feeds the spark plug.

The when you pull the tether, the spark will ground out and won't go to the spark plug.

I think you may possible have the wire hooked up to the wrong power wire, and when you pull the tether it grounds out the wrong wire, and there goes another fuse.

Soo.. double check your wiring, I think theres an explaination of how to wire up a tether in the Frequently asked questions forum.
