I plan on buying aftermarket suspension for my 400EX. I am considering Axis, Elka, and Works. I am leaning towards the Axis Shocks, does anybody have any reccomendations or suggestions about different brands? I want the highest quality, most plush shocks possible.

If money is not object go for the custom AXIS or ELKA. It should be a pretty simple choice i would think

if you don't feel like waiting like a month - two months,go with elka...i got mine in about a week. All the other companys take much longer then that....and the elkas are one of the best shock companys out there now anyway

Well ive owned Axis, PEP, and Elka. And I rate them in that order.

Axis's turn around is just about as fast as Elka. Axis is a bit more hurtful on the wallet, but well worth it.

Elka's are the best, no question! Any of the compaines will set them plush for you, its not that one company has plusher shocks than another, they will be built however you want them.

If you have the money I wouldnt even conmsider works. I run Elkas on my R and I love them, it is like a completely different ride. For the money saved over Axis, I say Elka is a better deal.

I have Axis on my 250R and my brother runs Elka's on his KFX400. Personally it comes down to rider preference. I love both of them. Its hard for me to say which is better. Only difference i can really tell is i have the axis setup perfect for my riding style and his elka's are setup for his riding style but i love his when i ride it and my brother told me he likes my 250R also. so it just kind of comes down to what you wanna spend your money on.

To me they are both great shocks. Can't go wrong either way.

Get PEP :o lol Honestly, I probably could never tell a difference between PEP,Axis or Elka...I am not a seasoned or experienced enough rider to determine a difference..

i don't get where u guys are sayin elka is the best for the money... they aren't any cheaper then axis and more expensive then PEP:o

and the problem is with elka is that everyone gets the wrong valving... u want plush get sport/trails... u race gncc or do lil bit of MX get GNCC... u ride MX only and jump 40+ft then get MX valving...

i got elka for one reason... customer service... the ease to get parts... everyone i called to revalve axis told me they can't get parts and it may take months... pep i wasn't waiting a year for the shocks... and axis shocks woulda took about 2 weeks to get in... my elkas came in 3 weeks but they were waiting on the rear conversion...

It is rider preference. I have never had a problem out of a set of elka's. There MX shocks are for fast riders. if they feel a little stiff the faster you ride them the better they feel. I like elka's and axis. Pep's are good but take forever to get and a pain to deal with.

look, most of the time you will recieve opinions based on a rider that has at best expierence with 1 brand. and i know some of these guys replying and I can tell you some know thier stuff while others will spend life saying they know thier stuff.

Axis- great shock, doesnt come much better. downfalls are that if you dont have access to a good shock builder who can keep them up and running you might find yourself b!tching because parts are backorder etc. ive owned 2 sets and both have been flawless.

Elka- they are the hot shock right now. you can get them fast and service on them is probably the easiest especially if your on exriders.com. Downfall- IMO elka early on suffered from thier own learning curves as do all companies. They have fixed all know problems and are steadily kicking butt! Also, dont lie to whoever you order your shocks from. Elka sets thier shocks up for racing and they mean RACING. if you want a plush ride then get thier sport valving...its on par with all 3 sets of PEP's ive owned.

PEP- another killer shock that does it all right except for the long wait. The wait is whats killing PEP as there arent any known quality issues i know of.

so, you take it for what its worth. get the most shock you can for whatever moneyyou have. my advice is to save until you can afford the set you want!

What about TCS? For the price, service, quality, and wait time, these shocks can't be beat. I know which one's I'm ordering! :D

for the price of TCS I have no complaints. They are an awesome shock and the people there are great!

Are elka's the best because you make more off a set of them?;)

I'd say since it takes AXIS 3 months to send him seals to replace a bad set in a pair of axis shocks that he had I wouldn't push their product either..:blah:

Makes him look bad when AXIS is the one that doesn't have their chit together...

I dont have either on my bikes, but from all the research that i have done, i would go with Elka. As far as quality, i think they are both pretty equal, and you can have the elkas at your door in less than 2 weeks. And unless you are running ARSfx (the guys that runs axis now makes these arms) a arms, you are not going to get the best customer service from Axis. I know several shops that have orderd tons of pairs of axis shocks months ago, and they cancelled the orders and went with elka, simply because of the customer service. Axis is really letting everything go to hell.

JPMX is not having any problems getting Axis parts. Maybe you should call James Perry.

I have owned Works and they were OK but no where as good as my Elkas. I do reccomend them for the minis though, we have had very good luck with them on our minis....

I have rode TCS on a couple of different quads and I was VERY impressed with them and heard good things about there customer service as well.....

As for PEP, I have never rode but have a freind that loved his shocks, but could NEVER get the parts he needed( 2 months and still waiting!) but I have heard alot of good things about there shocks .

And of course, never heard nothing but praise about Axis aside of slower turn around time for a few people and getting them serviced , but they loved there shocks
