Has anyone adjusted there valves yet? I am interested to know how many hours you have logged on before they needed adjustment, esp the intake valves with the shims and the difficulty of the task. Also cost of replacement shims.

shim and bucket valves stay within spec for a long time. You'd probably get a couple years out of it before they actually need to be replaced. This does depend on how hard you rod on it and how much you ride. They are a very reliable set up. I think replacement shims are in the $5-$10 range.

Crazyriles...

Don't believe what your dealer told you. 2004TRX450R is right, and the shim under bucket style valves do not require initial/break-in adjustment, as the style of valve adjustment on a 300 or 400EX require. Your dealer is probably just trying to get some extra $$$ out of you on (unnecessary) service fees.

I'm certainly no engine expert, but my 2 or 3 buddies that are say the same thing as 2004TRX450R.

Yes these guys are right. Honda thought that out well. Your dealer is wrong.

That were my thoughts about shim and buckets. Im a toyota mechanic and I have never seen anyone come in for a valve adjustment on any of the cars that use this design in the 1.5 years ive been with them. The only ones that need adjustment is the old 22r series motors with the rocker arms etc like the 400ex. Cool good thing to know.
