When i was riding my 400ex i noticed there is a ticking sound coming from the motor it is not very loud is this bad? The motor only has about 9 hours on it!

After about 4 or 5 tanks of gas on a new 400ex. It needs to have it's first service.. SOunds like it's time..:D

You need to take your machine in for it's first tune up and have the tappetts adjusted on on your rockers. mast all do it. my 04' 400ex did it too.

Is it doing anything bad to my motor? can i still ride it?

In the long run it will do bad things to your motor. Either the valves will mushroom from being to loose or burn from being too tight and definitley change oil, i would changed it after the first hour esp when breaking in a new motor. I wouldnt continue to ride it with the valves out of whack. AFter I adjusted the valves on my xr400 it had more power and started easier.

what octane of gas u running, if it is too low it will casue it to ping and know and all of that..

Don't discount that you still need to adjust your vavles. But if you still have that ticking noise. I noticed that in your signature you have a WB E Series exhaust, is it just the slip-on or full system? If you have the full-system you may have an exhaust leak where you headers mount to the engine.
