BLM Hosting Public Meeting to Review Churchill County Plan
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Carson City Field Office, is hosting a public meeting on April 27, 2004, 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm, at the Fallon Convention Center to present revisions to the Churchill County Resource Management Plan Amendment (Plan) and Environmental Impact Statement that was begun last summer.
The Plan will address energy resources, fire management, off-highway vehicle (OHV) use and designations, and Churchill County open space needs. The Plan has been corrected to change the Navy status in the process from a joint interest to a cooperating agency for the EIS. The Navy intent to revise their Integrated Natural Resources Management Plan (INRMP) has been postponed.
In addition, the Plan now includes analysis of a proposal to develop a geothermal power plant east of Fallon; evaluates the status of the Horse Mountain, South Stillwater, and Lahontan Wild Horse Herd Management Areas (HMAs); and the proposed designation of an Area of Critical Environmental Concern (ACEC) at Sand Mountain. The planning area is primarily limited to Churchill County for all issues with the exception of energy resources, which will be addressed for all lands managed by the Carson City Field Office.
The presentations will include personnel from Nevada Geothermal Specialists LLC to describe the proposed geothermal power plant and BLM staff to present proposals for the HMAs and the ACEC.
The public is encouraged to attend and provide comments on any or all proposals. The comment period is open until May 10, 2004. Written comments should be sent to: Carson City Field Office, Attn: Terri Knutson, 5665 Morgan Mill Road, Carson City, NV 89701; Fax (775) 885-6147.
