pilot jet length

i bought a genuine keihin 21 series pilot jet, size 42, for the 400ex carb, but its slightly longer than the stock one and the 45 thats in my 350x carb. this doesn't affect the flow, does it?

I just put a 40 in mine that looks the same (long) as in the pic.

I thought they had sent me the wrong part, but it worked fine.
