Anybody into Supra's or 240sx's?

My dad and I are considering buy a Supra TT or 240sx with a blown motor or tranny and building it up slowly (im only 13). I really want it so i can smoke some of these POS ricers goin around town. No im not going to put a 2 foot wing on it and 8 inch folgers (sp) can, where going to try to make it a sleeper kinda. So where just going to put a nice paint job on it and wheels on it. Does anybody know any good message boards for them? Thanks!

240SX's are gonna be very very rare to find...they're only good once you do the SR20DET conversion or really put a pair of balls on the stock engines in them...right now I'm having a brain fart but once I think of the message boards I used to go on I'll post it...

Basically, 240SX's are used for drifting in Japan, and they're very rare in the US. I've only seen two of them and I'm 17 years old. They are the drifting kings to make a long story short. What alot of people do in Japan, as well as the US is take the SR20DET engine and put it in the 240SX/Silvia. I'm almost positive the 240SX is a Naturally Aspirated four cylinder engine that isn't very fast, alot of people say it is a fun car to drive, but it doesn't really have the power they want. The SR20 is the actual turbo that comes with the engine. Needless to say there's alot of stuff you need to study and I only know a little bit...honestly I think you'd be happier just finding a Supra TT; it would still be faster then the 240SX with the one turbo if you do the SR20DET swap. By the way.. 240's are horrible unless you and your dad plan to drop another 5 grand and do an SR20DET swap.

And finally.. have fun insuring a 3rd gen supra. You can't, trust me.

Your chances are a million times better for finding a Supra TT that is blown then a 240. Finding a Supra TT with a blown engine is going to be a task though...good luck...

i didnt read all the post im alittle tired but im gonna put my input in so if i say something that was already say sorry.
i find 240sx's all the time there not that rare. the motors that you can put in them are sr20det's from a japanese 240(xalled silvia in japan) you can also put a rwd skyline motor in them the rb25det but you must have a rwd transmission. this is slightly more expensive bt also you can get 600hp on stock bottom end.
dont get a tt supra yes there fast but they are expensive, and to me not worth the money especially if your on a budget and the insurance will be crazy my insurence was gonna be 2800 every 6 months on a 93 rx7 which is not as high performance to insurance as the supra. get yourself an older lexus such as a sc or gs something of that matter if you want a toyota. they come with the non turbo supra motor already in them so you can either turbo them and do work to it or do a swap for the tt motor with a 6 speed manual any questions just ask if i cant answer you ill ask my brother hes is doing this swap soon and hopes to have around 6-700 at the wheels. just ask any questions about imports i can get em answered

You have to make sure that the Skyline engine will pass emissions and all that garbage...it's easier for him to just find a Supra TT with a blown trans/engine and rebuild it...rather then going through all the work of finding a different engine for the 240 and installing it. My .02

emissions isnt hard to get through at least in maryland its not. as long as everything is done correctly it should work fine also a rb25det swap including engine trans turbos electrics and computer can be gotten for around 5-6k and a sr20 is 3-4k and prices for messed up supra tt are still high. a totaled supra tt will still bring 8-10k

American muscle is very cheap. 3rd gen f-bodies are cheap, and can be found in very good condition. Then just slap a real motor in it and your good to go.

hmmm our chevelle does that like nothing... kinda sad when we only put about 1000 bucks into it, and all we did the the engine was puta bigger cam in it and an air filter and exhaust, all in all the entire care cost 3 grand thats including the grand we put into it, and it just flat out hauls, of course we have a 454 in it so0o0o0o yea...

a supra tt will never be a sleeper either since everyone who knows anything about cars knows that a supra tt with bpu(basic performance upgrades) is an extremely fast car.

Dude, where did you find a running 454SS Chevelle for 2 grand? A 70' LS6 goes for $45,000+. And how did you lose 2-3 seconds on the 1/4 with just an air filter and exhaust? I mean I know those 454s are incredible engines, but the stock LS6 ran mid to low 13's..

What i mean by sleeper is by make i look all stock on the exterior except wheels, tires and exhuast, and dump all of our money into the Powertrain. And guys please keep the bashing to the PMs....thanks
