The honda 90 isnt alone in the woods these days as 50 & 90cc quads are now well represented at every race

Pappy
04-10-2004, 03:33 PM
Cody kind of surprised me and I didnt get the sharp picture I had hoped for, but check out the front suspension working like mad! It allowed him to hit sections like this much faster then the other riders!

Pappy
04-10-2004, 03:35 PM
The 11 & 12 year old 90cc class formed into a tight train that just kept plowing along!

Pappy
04-10-2004, 03:37 PM
Lap 8 and Cody still held second and there wasnt anyone even close to him. It appeared he had it locked up!

Pappy
04-10-2004, 03:40 PM
This course offered the riders elevation changes that had all the trimmings, loose rocks, roots and tight tree's in places

Pappy
04-10-2004, 03:43 PM
Lap 9 provided me with this sight....my 2 sons racing. Cody made the pass clean

Pappy
04-10-2004, 03:45 PM
Inexpierence caused this hang-up...and BOY did she let him hear about it:p

Pappy

This rider gets his front wheels high after hitting a large embedded rock

Pappy
04-10-2004, 03:48 PM
This section of track on lap 10 proved to be the downfall of many riders. The area just to the right is filled with large rocks and grapevine. Shown here are the 2 different lines with a rider taking each

Pappy
04-10-2004, 03:52 PM
The 50cc riders just happened to get all bottlenecked up about the same time as Cody reached this area. Ryan and others were being helped thru the section by a course worker and other track help. I didnt even see Cody approach but did get to see him get hung up after trying an alternate line:( I rushed to help him but he was hung up pretty good allowing 2 other riders in his class to pass him. He ended up 4th in class. Thats racing:p

Ryan was running 3rd until this same bottleneck which put him back to 7th.

Pappy
04-10-2004, 03:56 PM
After the race we removed this section of grapevine from Cody's quad:p

Pappy
04-10-2004, 04:05 PM
I also raced today, and only planned on riding the course and not actually racing. I tried to be last off the line, i ended up hitting the first turn in 8th. The second turn which leads us into the woods found all but the leader in my class bottlenecked. I quickly saw a line and that was that. I caught the leader a few miles in and quickly passed him. After running into riders hung up on everything you can imagine, I had enough time to watch a rider tackle a hillclimb that 3 others were already hung up on. As he neared the top I dropped the hammer....only to catch him faster then planned and ofcourse, he nails a tree at the top. I couldnt let off the gas so i tried shooting around him, which worked fine until i clipped a tree sending me one way and the 450R another.

After flipping the quad back on all 4's I tried getting it started but it was almost impossible due to the incline. I dismounted and searched for a rock to help hold the quad and keep it from sliding further down the hill everytime i kicked it. Now I dont know about you, but I aint never seen a section of trail without a good rock...until today:mad: So back on a kicking like mad to no avail. The rest of my class caught me and all but 3 passed me. Finally getting going I realized my day was done. The clutch lever was bent so bad it was almost impossible to use.

All mine come from Jeff at the Quadshops trailer  (when he isnt looking:eek: ) but C&d carries them as do others. I love them!!

And I might add that Cody grabbed my camera and took some pics. What exactly does a 10 year old boy take pictures of:confused:

Pappy

the course is usually 1 mile or a bit either way of 1 mile. the top riders usually complete 10 to 12 laps in 20 minutes. So thats 10 to 12 miles in 20 minutes...and on these small machines THATS FLYING!

Id like to see them run for 30 or 45 minutes myself.

The "magic" button on the YFZ would have been nice in that situation

I thought I did really good, even tho I didnt get the holeshot. I was in 4th and started passing and moved to 2nd and i really thought I had a shot at the leader until the bottleneck on the last lap:mad:

The course was ruff but with my training and set up I was able to get thru it easily. It was tuff competition in the 90 class and trying to get around the 50s. lets hope next race will be totally different as we wont be running over the small kids.I think it will make it much safer with split races.

Im happy I didnt wreck, but yet I did get real muddy and mom wasnt happy but she will live:blah: I wish that they made the 90s race for an hour so i could wear out some of the older kids.

Most importantly I had fun and everyone was safe and nobody was hurt.

I would like to thank the promotors of the race for letting us kids race. And i would like to thank the Quadshop, Burgard Cycles and I would really like to thank my family for all thier support.

lets hope I do even better in the next race!

Cody

Pappy I really didn't have a clue what kind of place i was in going into the woods. I know you were right beside me to my left. The front end came up and didn't drop till I got to the first turn. Were you ahead of me going into the woods? I know when I got to the first uphill of the track, there was a single file line of quads sitting and waiting. I just passed them and made my own line up the first hill that was kind of at an angle. But I don't remember seeing you anywhere along the way... I ran 1st place in my class till the last lap. I stalled over a log, and my wire for the starter snapped at the connecter during the race. I pushed my bike to the next downhill and drift started it. I was passed by 2 riders in my class while I was pushing. So I finished 3rd in my class and 18th overall. Look forward to seeing you at the next race...

I went into the woods right infront of you, and never saw a line at any hill, but I know what one you are refering too. Im certain you passed me at the hill that had the creek at the bottom:p

I didnt even try on the start,,,infact i was preoccupied watching the fight and didnt even know we got the flag until I heard the quads start..lol

That was a pretty cool track if you like hills. God knows there was enough of them!!
