Charging System

Hello All
Having trouble with my 03 400ex
I think it is with the charging system, I have a new battery, but it keeps losing it charge
I was out last nite for about 2hrs - Worked fine, then today, it barely had enough power to turn the motor over
I was running last nite with my headlights on ?
Like I said, the battery is only about 3 weeks old ?
I have made sure the key is not left on
Any help would be great

at the end of the night of riding do your lights get really dime?
If so check your regulater ( I think that's what it's called ) the thing by you battery with the air cooling fins.

I dont see why you couldn't do the same hillbilly test you use on cars to test the charging system.

Start the quad... Turn on the lights... then disconnect the neg. side of the battery.

See how it runs with the battery disconnected, after the initial drop (if any) it should run like normal.

Works for cars may work for quads..

I tried disconnecting the negative terminal, the bike still ran fine.
I guess it could be a bad battery ?

No, the light did not dim much at all, just at idle they would dim slightly - not very much at all
