I just heard from an aquaintance that told me she was told that this year the 250r will not be eligible to race in ama sanctioned open class racing for TT. anyone have any info on this? I don't know if it's for all races or just TT, But I can't believe they would phase out the 250r already.

Anyway, the other question I have is this; I have the opertunity to trade my 2000 440ex for a 88' 265r that is super clean. I want to mx race and the r is king on the track, but I've never ridden a 250r. Should i trade my newly rebuilt (see my sig) 440ex for a solid, very clean 265r?

Which would be better for MX racing?

First of all you need to make sure that the frame isn't cracked on the r 'cause they're kinda old. No. two. It really depends on what you do to it and from what it sounds like, the r would be a better choice for mx.

Take the R!

it depends does the r have nething done to it chassis wise? cause if not then just keep the ex. also take a ride on the r to see if you like it or find someone around you with one and ride it you may not be able to ride a 2 stroke as fast as ur 400ex. some people just cant ride 2 strokes fast same goes for 4 strokes so its all up to your opinion

I havn't check the classes for this year, but the 250R has not been allowed in the open class for at least 3 years. The 250R is in the 265(250) cc class. The open class is for atv's of 266 and larger 2-stroke. and 441 and larger 4-stroke. Some local races will let the 250 in the open class, but not at the nationals for the last 3 years.
