ahhh the balisong...i am very familiar with that weapon.

my Dad is freakin awesome with one of those.

actually, the wakizashi was carried to be used as a sword, not as a knife. that was the tanto's job.

samurai carried the wakizashi for when they were dismounted and had to enter a building since the katana and daikatana were considered to long to be effectively used in close quarters fighting such as inside a building.

a daikatana was longer than a katana. when carrying a daikatana a samurai usually didn't carry any other weapon.

i guess equate it to the European greatsword.

i found a store that was actually selling a masamune replica sword. it was pretty amazing. it had a 60 inch overall length. amazing blade.

okay, do you know how good zinc handles are? I've never used one before and I'm looking at a sword now that has a full 420 stainless blade but the handle is powder coated zinc. any clue how that would hold up?

zinc is mainly used for decorative swords.

it oxidizes very easy, especially when handled often.

for a functional Japanese sword i prefer wood(Japanese maple, rattan, or rosewood) over metal. bones are very nice also :D

but if the zinc alloy is powder coated.. thus protected from common oxidants would it be functional?

yeah, i would say it would be.

very pretty too. though the only complaint i would have to say would be balance. lighter materials were usually used in the hilt for that purpose. though if the blade was of dense steel, or long enough, it would not throw off the balance of the weapon.

my favorites are a pair of Dao swords...i used to do forms with them in IWUF back when i was younger. second favorite is a replica of a Moorish scimitar. the balance in that weapon is amazing!

no not really, my home machines are used strictly for on-line gaming and with those services active, whenever i get a message they tend to throw me out of my game, so i never really liked them.

my friends mom is a blackbelt and cares about her swords more than anything, they just moved intp a new house and it was the first thing she put in. Anyways she has a ton of them and there alll pretty crazy. sharp as hell too...

my ex-friend had a katana and he let me play with it and i chopped his mattress in half.

I had an ivory handled stainless 8 inch knife, i put it in my friends field car, and i keep asking him where it is, he wont tell me, i think hes trying to steal it from me. ill never forget about it, its stoner bashing time.

that's cool considering even a razor edged sword can't cut a matress in half unless you wielded it at like 30 meters per second with a slashing motion in the strike.
